Hi, no clue if this is the right sub, but I hope you can help me 🙂

I moved to the Kanton Zürich last year in April. Now I've received this mail. This is the only mail I can find, so I'm confused that they're saying, this is the second time they tried to reach me. This is the mail: no-reply@svazurich.ch

In case this is relevant; I worked fulltime in 2023 for about 2 months before and 5 months after moving to the Kanton Zürich.

My question is: is this legit? What kind of questionnaire is this/for what?

  1. Its legit. And like the title says, its to check whether you need to pay your AHV Beitrag. If you‘ve worked in 2023 and received more than the minimum Brutto wage than you dont need to pay

  2. They usually send you a physical questionnaire. There is a 5 year window to retrospectively pay into the AHV, technically. Don’t be stressed, but you should fill it out.

  3. Before filling out critical information I would give the SVA a call and aks if it’s legit (unless you’ specified they contact you by mail previously).

  4. sorry this is the SBB customer service subreddit, not the SVA subreddit., you’re in the wrong place to ask

  5. It’s legit and usually University students get it. (Which reminds me to do it right now).

It’s a relative simple self assesment form if you have to pay additional AHV becuse your income is bellow the minimum of abouth CHF 5000 per year.

  6. When you work in switzerland they take a part of your salary for when you are retired or have an accident and can’t work anymore. You need to pay a minimum per year so you don’t have a unpaid hole, otherwise you will significantly get less when you retire. This form will check if the paycheck you got in switzerland is enough to fullfill this. Otherwise they will recommend you to pay the rest(you are not obligated but i recommend it). working 5 months in zurich probably is enough but i’d fill it out anyways because if you have “paid” enough it will directly tell you so…
