We have a load of often daily fines at work – for uLEZ compliant vehicles. Which then require appeals and more hassle. Not my job, but have seen them coming in. So a good bit of it might be incorrectly issues fines floating about in the system too.
I also wonder how many are cloned plates or similar.
There are a LOT of people with brainrot on the anti-ULEZ Facebook groups telling each other that if they burn / throw away the PCN letters then TfL won’t / can’t do anything. Bunch of Sovereign Citizen / Magna Carta stuff thrown in to the mix too.
£218m quid!! What the actual heck, the bar for ULEZ compliant cars is so fricking low and people still haven’t switched over?
Drivers are the most entitled demographic of people we have in this country.
When the expansion first occured the system made a lot of errors – more than one person I know got a fine letter despite their vehicle being compliant. Got overturned on contesting and they’ve since fixed it as the letters have stopped… but if they’re counting the initial errors, not surprised a lot of “unpaid” fines because they were incorrect.
Sadly it gave more ammunition to the conspiracy crowd. But just classic admin errors.
I complained on a local FB Community group that the ‘bladerunners’ that cut down a ULEZ camera had dropped it across a pavement and smashed someone’s fence. This meant vulnerable road users had to go onto a fast road to get around it. This included a lady with a pram and toddler walking beside her. Not to mention the property damage to a local homeowner.
The response on the Facebook group was absolutely insane to me. One parent seemed perfectly fine with walking her small children along a road and aggressively defended the vandalism.
Another person defended the action by suggesting the deeper meaning behind the protest and another crowed about how they can now take their classic car out for a spin. (a properly categorised ‘classic car’ would likely be exempt.
When I tried to respond to these comments to promote compassion for local pedestrians, or point out fallacies the comments were locked and I was unable to respond to anyone.
Whilst it is likely not reflective of the population of the area overall I am utterly disgusted by the sheer brain rot and lack of any real community spirit shown by these ‘locals’. Likely the first to crow about the ‘old days’ and too many of ‘those’ moving in but desperate to waste public funds and make life dangerous for local people in pursuit of their needless crusade.
They tried to make the Mayoral Election a referendum on ULEZ and they lost, so’ get over it’? That’s how it works right?
Lock em up. It’s the new “granny goes to prison for non payment of council tax”
I see someone near me use their non-ULEZ compliant van (08 diesel) on a daily basis. This is within the circular so ULEZ has been there since 2021 and I cannot imagine they pay the daily fare as they also park daily on double yellows and throw away the PCNs yet nothing has happened to their van. They used to take their number plates off at night but since the police had a word they leave them on and just discard the tickets.
All anecdotal but it wouldn’t surprise me if there’s a section of road users that are essentially judgment proof to this stuff and carry on regardless.
I wonder how many are foreign drivers. Tfl has fined foreign Teslas because it doesn’t know they are Ulez compliant. Plus there’s been a case in the Belgian press because TfL has been illegally using EU based agents to get the details of EU registered cars and their owners. The thing is, this is sensitive private data which can be exported outside of the EU only for serious offences, like drunk driving etc, not for parking fines and for Ulez. Not sure if the EU can fine TfL but it can certainly fine its EU based agents
