  1. Curious as to how they died. I mean, severe turbulence doesn’t kill anyone, but having a heart attack or a broken neck caused by the situation could and I would figure both could be avoided.

  2. This is terrible news. Just awful for their loved ones.

Just a reminder to always keep your seatbelt on, even when the seatbelt light isn’t on.

  3. I’ve never encountered such severe turbulence that would do this. Usually, pilots put the warning signs for seatbelts if it’s going to be bad, so I’m curious to the cause. Unless someone frail or with an underlying condition had too much stress or something?

  4. “No way im fastening my seat belt, that would mildly inconvenience me!”

  5. This is a stark reminder why they say to keep your belt fastened when seated. Turbulence can come out of no where and be very violent. Condolences to the families.

  6. If you are not strapped in and hit your head hard enough on the ceiling you can break your neck…

  7. A reminder if you need it to keep your seat belt on for as much time as you can. Fine go for a toilet break if a quick stretch of the legs.

But there’s a reason we keep them on all the time up front.

  8. flew on a long haul a380 a week ago, there was an entire family that didn’t have seatbelts on when it was taking off, and walked around about 2 mins off the ground, im not really surprised

  9. This truly terrifies me. As a not so great flyer anyway, who hates when it gets bumpy, I think experiencing this kind of turbulence would be one of my greatest nightmares.

Unless I really need the toilet, then I stay strapped into my seat with my seatbelt at all times on flights. You just don’t know what turbulence you are going to encounter.

  10. Well now I feel further justified for always wearing my seatbelt on a plane seat.

  11. Just wanted to post that the fear of flying reddit is having a big chinwag about it here:

    [https://www.reddit.com/r/fearofflying/comments/1cx5359/megathread_singapore_airlines_sq321/](https://www.reddit.com/r/fearofflying/comments/1cx5359/megathread_singapore_airlines_sq321/)

These are where you’re most likely to find actual facts on Reddit rather than conjecture, including the “we were flying to Majorca once and we hit an air pocket and the plane dropped hundreds of metres” anecdotes.

  12. Do airlines pay for the medical bills in case they land in a country with no public health-care?

Imagine landing somewhere in the US and having to pay 20k USD for some head stitches or something. How does it work?

  13. There’s something a mite unsettling about news like this when you’ve a souvenir boarding pass with the same flight number on it! (I know this flight runs pretty much every other day, but still…). Condolences to the family and best wishes to the injured.
