The new timetable increases the time it takes to travel between Geneva and Lausanne and removes trains between bienne and Geneva.
Also, the IR90 that does Geneva to Wallis still has the very old wagons. Something you would never see in Zurich
I am really starting to think that Suisses romands really like to pay more and get less

It’s very easy. The infrastructure usage has reached both capacity and end of life in many places. It is not possible to mantian the line without reducing the capacity.
On top of that, in the last and next years a lot of new infrastructure projects are being built all across Switzerland: this means that the maintenance costs will further increase in the future because of the increased assets. Unfortunately the financing of maintenance is not politically “sexy”. The politicians will always prefer to say: “look at this new fancy connection/station/tunnel/whatsoever I made SBB build!” instead of saying “thanks to our financing the SBB infrastructure is resilient, efficient and safe. Nothing new to report, all runs smooth”.
