I suspect they are leaving now, much like Doireann did, becuase of the new regulations brought in around declaring gifts and declaring any external sponsorship deals.
Their recent financials showed they where doing well, but stepping away from Rté will be a hit.
They’re established enough to continue their podcast, do MC work and the likes for a while too.

RTE selling 2fm should be a no-brainer at this stage, the market is shrinking and it’ll be worth nothing soon. They need to shore up the things worth keeping – news, sport, current affairs, documentaries and maybe invest in seeking out and showcasing new drama and comedy talent.
This country does not need a state-owned popular music radio station because there’s plenty of those. We do need classical and Irish language stations because no one else is doing that. But 2fm? There’s at least 5 other stations doing the same job.
I find it pretty funny that one of the major gripes about RTE is something along the lines of “there’s nothing for a younger audience, it’s all for old people”
Then when RTE hire these lads who are enormously popular with a younger demographic and have one of the biggest podcasts in the country, the sub absolutely shits on them and RTE for giving them the shot
They’ll probably get another travel show across Europe, all expenses paid for holiday. Public service broadcasting.
Will actually miss the daily slot, they had a hell of a lot more of character and charisma about them than 95% of the shows on 2FM, Today FM etc.
2FM is cursed at this point.

Doing 3-4 gigs a year in Ireland, selling out dates in Oz, the states and Canada and the podcast is flyong. I’d say they’ll be grand for a few bob for another while.

I have listened to RTE 2fm for absolute yonks… fave show ever was with Keith, Jen and Bernard. Those days were great! Since that all changed I can’t keep up with new presenters coming and going. The 2 johnnies are very successful in fairness, most times when I listened to their show there were presenters filling in for them.
Hope they do well in their new ventures, wonder who’ll be doing the evening slot? 👀
I’ve no idea who they are but we’re in the post linear broadcast environment. It’s a gig but the clever and ambitious are now podcast and live performance first. Get that right and your income is a multiple of the average rte radio 2 income.
Based on the News at One just now it sounds like Jennifer Zamperilli may not be coming back either. They asked 2fm why she wasnt on air for the last two weeks and would she be back and the response was “No comment”.

They are going to be a big loss. I never had any time for 2fm before they came on. I’m from cork and I don’t think rte 2fm was popular at all at all among any demographic, anecdotally. It used to always be county sound or spin sw but since they came I think young and old found them enjoyable. I was actually talking about this to the brother how they made 2fm. It’s all anyone listens to anymore

Not a fan of the GAA, chicken roll kinda jokes. But they did grow on me over the last couple of years and generally like to listen to the show on the drive home.
The chicken fillet roll brigade will miss them
