Russia Apparently Has Its Own “Woke AI” Problem…

if you haven’t been living under a rock for the last year you might know that woke AI has been in the English language news and while some of it’s hand ringing nonsense some of it is a real sign of some deeply problematic issues within AI for example believing German soldiers in 1930s looked like this there’s just a small reason this might not be historically accurate or uh for example depicting America’s founding fathers notable because large portion of them among other things were slaveholders uh depicting them like this again somehow managing to offend everybody but woke AI isn’t just a problem for the West Russia has found its own AI has some ideological issues uh notable president and unhinged Twitter user uh Dimitri medev jev uh has criticized uh Russia’s Facebook clone Yandex for its neural network its GPT uh for avoiding answers uh that are seen as problematic around the Ukrainian War so uh in an classically uh unhinged uh telegram rant Mev mvev who is Deputy chairman of the security Council right this is the uh place where Putin puts his most annoying Yes Men uh notably uh defense minister Sergey shigu is now chairing the security Council um medev Dev criticized uh Yandex GPT for avoiding answering questions about the seizure of Russian Assets in the United States the distance from Kiev to belad and monuments to Ukrainian Stefan Bandera within Ukraine now of course uh in classic Russian fashion the Yandex GPT neural network is embedded in the Allen Voice Assistant think of it as well it’s Alexa uh including smart speakers um he called the AI quote a terrible coward for its refusal to be sufficiently pro-russian uh including to the uh to the exclusion of facts for example it was asked about the distance between Kev and bod right it first answered the question but then said it was still learning which is interesting you may think why is that seen as so problematic well the answer is actually I mean it’s not that problematic it’s probably because it used keywords like Kiev and Bel godod um but it’s also problematic because as you probably know uh UK Ukrainian strikes within Belo are seen as a uh sign that Russia is Justified in escalating the conflict um now again we know that belard borders you Ukraine in the harke region and that Kev is almost 500 km away but it’s notable again I think too because the it’s a reminder of the Russian failure to take Kiev you can see that the apex of the Russian Advance uh in the early days of the war ended up coming very close to Kiev as close as uh this Sky Bean uh as close as 25 km from K in the early days of the war so it’s very uncomfortable for Russia to sit there and go hey you know we made it the first 175 km from the border uh but then we kind of fell apart at Mid campaign and that now it looks like KV is quite a distance from the nearest Russian territory so I I sort of suspect that it’s probably avoiding that question like for those reasons but also any question related to Stephan Bandera now Bandera is a interesting case study right but that Ukraine or excuse me Russia loves loves loves to site because he is considered a Ukrainian hero um despite the fact that he ended up uh like a lot of uh Heroes going from doing something heroic to doing something pretty horrible right and in this case he actually was a Ukrainian nationalist who resisted the Soviet occupation of Ukraine um and uh you know felt like he was someone who was defending what he considered his homeland and he was willing to work with just about anybody who would uh help Ukraine become free in his mind and that meant working with the bad Germans uh and this doesn’t again make you a good person but understatement of the Year there uh but this is someone who still fought against Ukrainian domination and was killed by the KGB in the 50s in Munich so I think the overall takeaway is that you know he was a controversial historic figure that ultimately at the time believed he was standing up for his homeland um but that doesn’t stop the Russian propaganda machine from turning him into a boogeyman uh they say that because this person is still considered a Ukrainian hero and because he partnered with uh the 1930s Germans that therefore it is an indictment of all of Ukraine it’s actually the only sort of point that they’re clinging to they’re like one of your Heroes is slightly problematic right therefore it’s an indictment of your entire government um and this is something that extremists on all sides the political Spectrum do they comb through their enemies relationships and history until they find the tiny flaws that are present in all humans and their institutions and then take them as evidence of a of a corruption at the root um now Med Med vev uh wondered whether the developers of yendex are afraid quote the Lear world will learn about the existence of Stefan Bandera monuments and understand that Ukraine has a uh n AI political regime thank you YouTube for Never Letting me just report facts I always have to talk like I’m a third grader uh again this is what I want to point out uh guys if people are like oh the world can never know the secret of him guys it’s English language Wikipedia the dude the dude has a huge article that very explicitly details his relationship to the German government okay so this is not like a this this is not the hot take you think it is yeah we all know about this dude yeah wow a country has a problematic hero oh big flipping shocker um right now of course he says that uh uh pretty standard stuff this greatly undermines trust in Yandex and its products the other hand it gives grounds on recognize Yandex services are very incomplete but even current managers as foreign agents this is of course uh a roundabout way of him threatening uh yendex or reminding them that they have to get on board or else it’s going to be a problem and of course as you guys know uh it’s very hard to constrain AI um it’s smarter than any person unfortunately and so therefore giving it programming uh limits right the is itself a difficult Prospect because when you have these programming limits you seem it seems like the AI can be jailbroken pretty easily again I’m not like an AI expert so don’t sit here and like tell me uh about it or at me but I think the key takeaway here again is that Russia is continuing to double triple and quintuple down on their weird ideological Hang-Ups around the war in Ukraine right and they really are working tirelessly to stop even the most obvious truths from getting into the Zeitgeist of the Russian public anyway that is really all I had for you check us out strike gum.com we have the five-pack now um if you are looking for that middle ground between an individual pack and a 70 75 piece tray um it’s on Amazon so go to amazon.com and thanks to everybody that left us a review on Amazon of the five pack especially because it just came out a couple days ago and thanks 1. i think i know what happened with geminiy in the first example shown, it probably saw in its training data how many times black people and asians are called nazis and took it literally.
so when someone asks for a 1943 German Soldier it puts 1 and 1 together, understands you want a Nazi Soldier and then looks in its data for what a nazi looks like.
which will heavily reference asians and black people for the reasons i said in the first sentence.
no idea why it would depict the founding fathers of america as black tho unless it got confused and thought everyone invovled with slavery must be black since so many slaves are black people.
that second example could just be due to the fact that gemini is so crappy that google had to fake a large portion of the anouncement when they showed it of.
no idea if it will get any better on that one assuming the model will get better over time and google isnt going to put so many safety measures on it that it completely dies under it.

  2. No, ai is not smarter than a human. Even politicans, managers or whater profession you do not like, are smarter.
AI can just recognize patterns better than many humans.

  3. You should really actually read their names. Mejdevdev is not his name, I listen to you and your opinions, those matter to me, but please, read their names instead of guessing some syllables. Lol

  4. You don't remember when he was the President? It hurts your credibility to not pronounce it correctly imo. He was the handpicked successor to Putin the first time as Putin was still bound by term limits, Call him mini Rasputin.

  5. Second time I got this sent to me. I didn't understand it the first time so why double dip on meaningless garbage? Just my opinion…your wife is a doctor, are times that tough?

  6. If you think woke AI is a problem, wait till you learn that around 15% of all AI researchers (and around 90% of AI safety researchers) believe that AI will *literally kill everyone*. That btw includes Sam Altman the CEO of the most prominent OpenAI company, creators of ChatGPT who said the worst case scenario is "Lights out for everyone".

  7. Well, Medvedev seems to be close to the breaking point. Calling a freakin' AI "A Coward" is just one step away from trying to marry your vacuum cleaner and suing your carpet.
I would be careful if I were him, his liver may explode one of these days.

  8. Yandex moved all its assets outside of Russia at the beginning of the war. They are now based somewhere else (I think here in the Netherlands).
