Russian Propaganda: Different Lies for Different Eyes

the Russian propaganda machine is an essential part of Putin’s strategy to win in Ukraine but different audiences get radically different messages and when we take a look at how Russia is spinning their War to different people we see just how fraudulent the whole thing is I’m Paul US Army Combat veteran let’s talk about it okay so the the the thing I wanted to talk about first and foremost is actually this statement from a former Russian Lieutenant Colonel who is raising the red flag about how Russia is treating its own troops he said he’s never seen Russian conscripts treated this badly in the history of the Russian army now this is someone who served in the Soviet Afghan army in Afghanistan during the 1980s um now he is a noted Putin critic uh but this is not somebody who is some kind of uh you know Rabel rousing 24 y old right this is a seasoned Russian officer and before that was a seasoned Soviet officer uh and the the treatment of Russian conscripts in Afghanistan was also like notably brutal um but this is on another level entirely right uh famously Afghanistan and chia uh two conflicts where Russian conscripts were also like pretty badly treated um but what he said I thought was really interesting about again the reality on on the ground he said that Russia has basically seen two of its armies completely destroyed right and that the the casualty count was at least 10 times higher than Afghanistan which over a 10-year War the Soviets lost 15,000 troops and that was seen as so egregious that they actually collapsed the entire Soviet government that’s how unpopular that was uh right now Ukraine’s general staff is saying a half a million Russian soldiers have been killed I don’t think that’s true but I think 150,000 casualties is in line with Western estimates including some leaked us uh estimates that were classified so again usually if they’re classified it means it’s not like they’re not trying to spin anything um so and that’s been in just 26 months of fighting but what I thought was also very interesting he sort of buries the lead here in his interview he says that he’s in contact with now officers serving in some units including a a repair unit located just behind the front lines they told him they were praying not to be sent into the trenches he said quote there’s a completely different attitude towards Frontline soldiers he says a soldier on the front line stays there for a week to 10 days no one cares about these people no one protects them he said it’s a beastial attitude towards them even from Junior commanders that he’s never seen this attitude towards soldiers in any war in Russia’s history and what’s to me this is sort of this aligns with the reality that we’ve seen um Russian conscripts he’s referring I think Frontline units to primarily storm Z or storm V units these are Russia’s smallest small assault groups who conduct the actual dirty business of charging enemy positions oftentimes These Are Soldiers with just a few days of training and they conduct what are essentially uh oneway assaults I can’t use the actual word but one-way assaults uh with very little tactical sophistication almost like a human wave type of attack and we actually saw it uh earlier today on combat vw.com this is my premium site um I twice a week find the viral combat footage it’s coming at us from the front lines and I out combat news.com but what we looked at on the video was a Russian assault of Ukrainian trench and it was like so tactically unsophisticated these Frontline troops were so poorly supported that it looked like the beginning of Saving Private Ryan uh you just saw the APC open up you saw these troops try to leave um but then you watch literally the APC That was supposed to provide them cover fire just drive off uh it’s it’s it’s things that in the US military we would consider like truly abhorent uh to leave your infantry unsupported to force them to fight without any kind of fire support um but this is seems just typical for the Russian military at this point where they just have this belief that yeah they drop off this squad and maybe they all get eliminated but uh you know the next Squad might have better luck and they just go back and pick up another Squad and drop them off until I guess the ukrainians run out of ammo uh it’s an absurd way to fight right so Russia though has to push back somehow against these kind of videos right that show a ill-prepared uh poorly run Russian army and what I want to point out is that they have one set of standards that leak into the Western media and another that leak into the Russian State media so as you can see this is I think a story coming to us from Russia well rather uh it is a very Russian framing story I believe probably um has intentionally or unintentionally um filtered its way to this UK news outlet from Russian sources and it says the world holds its breath as Russia prepares for use of nuclear weapons capable of striking the UK right very Panic inducing um but here’s the thing the literal subline explains it’s just the latest threat that Kremlin has made towards Nations that have been supporting Ukraine with military aid since February 2022 so 2 and a half years Russia’s been been doing what’s called nuclear saber rattling and it’s you know it’s been doing that about Ukraine but honestly I would have I would say at least twice a year for the past maybe 40 or 50 years Putin or Russia has said made statements about the power and potency of its nuclear weapons and says things that are generically true right like it’s testing quote the use of nuclear weapons in response to threats from the West notice how hard they’ve massaged these the the Russian official statements right quote the only two quotes from Russia is the words use of nuclear weapons and another quote that just says threats in quote now here’s the thing the US military also tests the use of its nuclear weapons because we have a large nuclear Arsenal and it’s important to make sure it works do you really want nuclear weapons where you’re not sure if they’re going to function the way they’re supposed to right even if you have no intention or immediate plans of using them you want to make sure they’re at least safe and operational and in storage and don’t need like maintenance you know and of course a nuclear Arsenal exists to respond to threats right and you notice that that there there’s no specifics about this we know that the US for example considered uh terrorists within Afghanistan to be a threat but it wasn’t going to Nuke them because the threat is always responded to proportionately right and you see again the article throwing in a bunch of biasing words like chilling warning you know uh that’s literally their goal and this is part of it this their goal is to chill Western response chill Western support for Ukraine um because Russia wants to create the fiction that um that even continuing to pursue current policy will is dangerous for the west and puts the West in imminent danger now we should ignore or Putin wants us to ignore the fact that for the past four or five months Russia has had all the initiative on the battlefield so why would the sudden provision why would now he need to threaten the West it’s not like he’s backed into a corner far from it he believes he’s never been closer to Victory um and the actual statement from their Ministry says the first stage of the exercise is is practical testing and preparation for the news of non strategic nuclear weapons in the Southern military District right this is Personnel of missile formations are practicing combat training tasks obtaining special ammunition for the ice cander equipping launch vehicles and then advancing them to their position and launching this is what’s just called a launch exercise very normal stuff something that is a routine scheduled occurrence in the US military for our minute Min system the only thing that makes it unique is that the United States we don’t at least publicly uh have non-strategic nuclear weapons those are what are called tactical nuclear weapons they’re generally smaller in yield and shorter in distance um but again nonstrategic it also refers the kind of of of targets you would need you would you would Target with that kind of yield so again somebody with even a pretty lay understanding of nuclear weapons understand that this is not a threat against you know this is not bombs that will go to London non-strategic nuclear weapons would be ones that for example would be used to uh stop uh if there was a tank column marching to Moscow um non-strategic nuclear weapons would likely be used on that in order to eliminate that tank column right they don’t have the big enough yield to say hit London right so this is the kind of story that the that Russia wants to project to the West um strength and a little bit of chaotic um uh a little bit of like a chaotic nature to Russia they want you to believe that Putin is inscrutable that he behaves in ways that no one can understand and that he is ready to strike the the us or UK at any time and he he wants voters to think oh no is the fact that we’re sending mortar rounds to ukrainians going to cause Putin to launch a nuclear strike no because the US has made clear that a strike a nuclear strike against any NATO country would immediately trigger a full response from the United States so is this war in Ukraine something that Putin has not even implemented a a full draft on is it so important he’s willing to turn Moscow into a parking lot because that is one 100% what will happen as discussed US military does not pull punches on it Readiness for its strategic nuclear weapons and we don’t have a nuclear escalatory ladder right we have only strategic weapons so if you detonate a nuke on NATO territory the only us response in our book is to hit every major city and every major military installation in the entirety of Russia but that’s just one audience that’s getting this Russian propaganda the other audience is Russia itself and for that I rely on the state TV Talking Heads uh you know old Russian dudes rant uh this is like your drunk uncle uh and he’s almost certainly indeed sosed on vodka but they Putin gave him a TV show so in this he kind of goes mask off right it’s uh solv uh scorning blinkin this is white uh I think he’s the National Security adviser for playing in the quote Russian city of Kiev he then thinks that Helsinki and Warsaw are also historically Russian cities so what he’s doing is spinning and we’re going to mute it because he speaks in Russian and there’s good subtitles you can just see the kind of the real Brilliance here right he says it they’re talking about Blink stating that uh Us weapons are not allowed to hit Russian territory so they have so Russia again has to spin to its people uh the fact that NATO who it claims to be fighting has all these constraints around use of its weapons but again NATO aggression is a core part of their messaging internal to their population so right now this is damage control and the Damage Control is really interesting because he says well actually it’s all our Russian Kev he’s like it’s actually all Russian territory we own Kev so technically you are using weapons in Russia because we’ve declared ourselves the owner of basically all of Eastern Europe we present him with a rent charge for singing all kinds of nonsense in our Russian city which is also interesting right you notice how that more than the NATO the threat of NATO Russian internal propaganda seems to really Orient itself again around the Putin rusky Mir experiment the idea that there is a greater Russia um more than just the territory of the current Russian Federation but that Russia has the right to dominate other countries and other peoples even if they speak other languages like uh again like KV and Ukrainian or as we’ll see see see he goes oh that’s new our Russian city of Kiev he’s even his co-host right who boy talk about a high-risk job try being a Putin propagandist in a debate show okay you have to make sure that you offer some kind of push back but you can’t actually raise core points like what if we just left Ukraine and do you think NATO would continue to like bomb us probably not so you have to come up with these weird things he’s like oh what do you mean KV Russian like KV is the mother of Russian cities take the old lady back to her motherland uh you can see he refers to the ukrainians with a slur ref comparing them to right-wing Germans he says it was just Odessa now it’s also Kev and Lviv so you see you notice how Russia does this thing in its internal propaganda where they’re free framing debates right and they set the parameters of the debate um and that’s to ensure that the public gets the illusion of policymaking um without the actual core assumptions being questioned you know again a great one of my and and Russia is notorious to it lots of governments do this um in the uh the best example that I always cite is the 2008 presidential election of the United States right between Obama and Bush there was no or Obama and McCain there was no anti-war candidate you you could vote for two different pro-war candidates which was not uh so there was no actual debate happening about the war in Afghanistan and Iraq but a similar technique is being employed here where instead of asking core questions is Ukraine do ukrainians want to be a part of Russia um is this right of us to Annex these other countries they’ve reframed it over how many cities uh outside of Russia um are does Russia is Russia entitled to right and so he’s saying here of course oh yeah Warsaw Lviv Helsinki they’re they’re all they’re all Russian okay they’re kind of being tongue and- cheek here um but he goes historically it’s all true at one point all of them were dominated by Moscow and again he may not be incorrect but by that argument uh everyone is Roman right everyone from uh from B basically Southern the southern UK uh all the way to Algeria they’re all Roman uh you know they all we should all be subject to Italian uh Italian rule because at one point th every one of those countries was dominated by Rome so again I look at this and I hope you guys take away from the fact that there’s all this different messaging there’s a lot of propaganda that’s being pushed that says different things to different audiences and the goal is to manipulate you right uh and and you know we’re all subject to it but just ask yourself when you see a story is this whole thing true or is it being pushed by someone with an agenda right anyway that’s all I had guys thank you so much to the   12. Veteran, you've disgraced yourself again… I am informing you about Colonel Sergei Gulyaev. He is not a combat officer, he graduated from college as a military journalist, and was in Afghanistan as a journalist. He awarded himself a rank and a military order, and upon investigation it turned out that he bought a replica of the order. Since 1992, he has not served in the army and joined the Russian opposition, worked for journalist Nevzorov…. but he was fired for stealing 8 tons of gasoline. After that, he was in various opposition parties in Russia, and had many scandals with fraud. In 2014, he supported the illegal coup in Ukraine …. In 2022, he wrote a book about the atrocities of the Russian army in Ukraine….. When asked where he got the materials for the book, Sergey replied that it was from the Ukrainian media. That is, he is not a combat officer and has not been related to the army for 32 years, he has no acquaintances, friends, or connections in the army. In 2023, he left Russia and, according to Russian intelligence services, Sergei cooperates with British intelligence.

  14. when some politicians from the USSR visited the USA in the late 90s, correspondents asked them – what struck you most about the USA? The politicians replied that they were most struck by the fact that America is overflowing with propaganda, there is a huge amount of it in all the media. To which the correspondents objected – there is no less propaganda in the USSR, and maybe even more…..The politicians said yes, it's true, but in our country, unlike the United States, people don't believe in propaganda.

  16. By that logic all of Ukraine should belong to Ukraine… because at some point all of Ukraine belonged to Ukraine
    But why stop there? France owned Moscow, so they have a right to it, as do the Finns.
    Sweden and Finland both have claims to St Petersburg
    the Turks or Mongolians should own most of southern Russia,
    China has a claim to south eastern Russia.

    All of Russia's major cities are on land that at one point or another belonged to a nation still in existence to this day.
    Russia's allies wouldn't be safe either: the Brits would have a claim to Iran, the Japanese have claims to North Korea and large chunks of China, and the Spanish have claims to Cuba.

    Etc, etc.

  22. i am Russian. This 14:13 propaganda guy called Vladimir Soloviev. Russian Jew. He majored in journalism in prestige American university.Before working at state media he was opposition journalist with liberal view and always critisized the goverment. He is fluent in russian,italian and english. He owns properties and assets in Italy, Israel and USA. His daugher living in Miami and citizen of USA. His oldest son living in UK and own multiple businesses. His youngest son also studies at prestige university in London, he is majoring in fashion and love to dress up as woman. Although they tell us America is bad and gay all russian goverment's and propaganda workers' kids are all citizens of western NATO countries and live their best lives, some of them have been living there from their birth and they can't even speak Russian. Meanwhile poor russians being robbed, fearmongered and forced to fight putin's war.This regime is so oppressive and inhumane. Random people being drafted to war against their own will under threat of jail and asset seizures, once you drafted you will be fighing till the end of the war with no breaks.

  24. No, the US doesn't test it's nuclear weapons. I believe we signed, or at least comply with, the test ban treaty. Instead, we built the multi-billion dollar NIF to help validate our computer models.

Why don't you explain where the money, that was supposed to pay for the fortification of the northern border, went to. Explain why Zelenskyy is conscripting troops off the street and sending them to the front without training them. Why Ukraine has no troops in reserve. Expose the propaganda of both sides if you want to be believable. Otherwise your just serving as a confirmation bias for the dolts who follow you.

  29. The funny thing their propaganda is so banal and people actually believe it. Of course, some are predisposed because of the colonial era and thinking Russia would be better, w/o knowing the fur trade or how it came to be. They just sucked at building ships and at war, like now. Ex. the front lines have fallen, because Russians, took masses losses, but moved a mile. You pan out from the 2022 map to now and it's virtually the same.

  32. Isn’t it clear what’s this all about? Nukes are a kind of weapon you don’t want to use but rattle. If Russia is backed into a corner, it can nuke something like Kharkov, maybe something else. Other countries will of course respond with some rattling of their own but not really do anything because an invasion or using strategic nukes will mean an apocalypse which nobody wants

  34. We know now that a lot of it is sabre rattling. We also know that Putin is crazy and could just push the button. We also know that there is f-all we can do about Putin's crazy idea that Russia rules the world or should do. Some of us also grew up in a small country where basically taking out the military bases would irradiate the whole country and with the fear that the Soviets could send the missiles to do that at any time. So sure we accept that Putin could end the world and us in particular but we also accept that we can't do anything about that, that we should stand up for what's right and Putin can go f himself, with a barge pole, using long slow strokes, showing the world just how far in the closet he was with all his camp macho strutting, while proclaiming that this pole is a Russian pole, it always was, it was once before and it still is so he's going to declare it Russian again because that's what it really wants and he can suck on the pointy end of a fast flying thing just before it "finishes" in his secret bunker.

    Just to summarise: Putin is a d threatening stuff we've already essentially lived through mentally hence holds no fear.

Quite possibly, people over there are still using newspaper in their dunnies, whereas we in the West have choices of half a dozen or more of various toilet rolls. I use several myself. As for those strafing battalions, stories over the previous 2+ years have told of recruits in the Russian army are from former far eastern iron curtain territories moreso than from ethnic Russians. The casualties are those far eastern people, mainly. Is that so? As for Russian propaganda, take it with a grain of salt. Especially in regards to Ukraine. Russia developed as an uncompromising dictatorship, no criticisms allowed. Hence the expression 'prison of nations'. Ukraine, and others, were more towards democratic ways, and for centuries, but severely repressed, and now, more than ever, the situation exists to break away from Muscovy's rotten lying thieving murderous denationialising shackles and oppression. That is what is happening now. Furthermore, dodgy Russian propaganda is no longer as effective as before, due to the current communications revolution. Even that 20th century propaganda regarding workers rights and stuff was a sham, duping people, whilst repressing any free thought and freedom. The gulags were slave labour, invented on some dodgy pretext. The Russian language was forced upon many, but now the lies are surfacing.

  39. Well then, if slovof believes that Kviv is Russian, and Ukraine is using Western weapons on Russian territory, then Ukraine should be able to use Western weapons on the Russian border. (Whats the difference) @#$%^ GIVE the russian propagandists EXACTLY what they spinning.
