This comes across as a pointless “got ya” to me. Maybe the guy is out to just line his own pockets but him being a landlord shouldn’t preclude him from stating an opinion on rental supports.
If politicians cannot speak about anything that has a direct impact on their personal lives then the government would cease to function. They can’t do anything about tax because they are liable to tax themselves, they can’t do anything with housing because they either own or rent, they can’t do anything with health because they avail of the system, they can’t do anything about education because they have kids going to school, etc. etc
There’s plenty of sticks to beat the government with without resorting to stuff like that.
