Sergio Mattarella elected for a second mandate as President of the Italian Republic. Despite not forbidden by the Constitution, a second mandate is see as forcing its interpretation (technically there is no limit).

Mattarella was called twice by Italy, not very sure he enjoyed that though
It’s like seeing frightened pupils begging their teacher to help them. Mattarella is a great president for Italy but we have a shameful parliament.
Poor man. All he asked was to be able to finally enjoy his grandchildren, play cards and watch some construction sites
🤡 🤡 🤡
This is bullying at this point
Cancella prima che ci perculino pure nel resto d’Europa
Zero fucks given about the fact that he’s the president. I’m just happy that Berlusconi suffered the humiliating defeat he deserved.
For the last year he asked to be left the fuck alone and 1009 adult children were unable to find 1 person to take his role.
To give you and idea of how lazy and incompetent this parliament was, they gave up on the election after only 7 voting sessions. In the past we had presidents elected after 16, 21 and 23 attemps but this time after just 7 attemps they went back to Mattarella and begged him to let them rielect him because they couldn’t reach an agreement.
Edit: words (I know my english is bad and I’m sorry).
It’s been a fear-mongering campaign from certain parties that “electing for a second time” is somehow forcing the interpretation. All presidential systems have ways to elect a president twice. There is nothing bad about this per se. Only thing is he didn’t want to be elected, which is why I think it’s sad. I like him a lot, and the fact that he took up the task for the good of the state despite his age is admirable.
I wasn’t a huge fan (nice guy and whatnot, but not exactly the epitome of commanding leadership) but at this point I’d have picked him over any of the other names that circulated.
Which is so goddamn depressing…
At least it wasn’t Draghi and he’ll fuck off once his job as PM is done. Unfortunately his legacy will be felt for years to come.
it’s a shame.
it’s always the same thing that is not even funny anymore
Every political party was unprepared for this election that was
scheduled 7 years ago.
M5S and PD did not bring a name to the floor.
the only name that was tried to push for real was Casellati by the right.
not even all the Right was united ,it was not even close to a neutral candidate
She is also the President of the Senate, so that would trigger another night scenario with another election to replace her.

>Sergio Mattarella repeats it for the third time in a few months: the seven-year period lasts seven years. There are therefore eight months left, then one of the most complicated phases of Italian political life will be staged, the election of the new President of the Republic
The Italian Gov is a coward and hided behind an 80 year old man that already did a very good job and just want to spent the rest of his life out of the public pressure.
we failed him
Cowards can not run a country in times of crisis.
we need election, it’s been 4 years, it only natural.
Is the one who got 8 votes THE Berlusconi?!
Did Draghi outplay himself by being too good of a PM to the point that they are too afraid to replace him and thus won’t elect him president? This is downright hilarious.
Wow, seven years for a term is long.
Just restore the monarchy already
