  1. If true, that is a truly shocking waste of taxpayer money over the last 3 years. FFFG has essentially allowed the government coffers to be used as an ATM by landlords.

  2. Is this all they have to be critical of the Government? Folks rent allowance.

  3. Build more houses/infrastructure? No.

Let’s give that money straight to the land bastards again.

10 billion, holy fuck what a waste of money

  4. HAP/Rent supplement payments over 13 years, so an average of 730 million a year. I don’t see how this is something to be critical of, it’s not a payment to landlords for the craic, it’s to house people who can’t afford to house themselves by themselves. SF say they could have used the money to build houses instead, firstly that wouldn’t have saved the 10bn as the people would still need to be accommodated while construction took place so it would be paying for the construction while also paying the 730m a year, and secondly they say it would have built 40,000 houses but HAP/Rent supplement payments support a lot more people than that, so you’d still be paying out most of the 730m a year after constructing those 40k houses. Basically SF are playing games with figures. They should have just focused on the fact that more houses are needed yesterday and set out how they would change the plan to achieve it, instead of talking silly.

  5. How do SF think that people won’t see through this completely. It’s such a transparently ridiculous statement.

Actions have consequences. Not spending the money on HAP and other measures would have made thousands homeless – is that t what they want?

SF had their chance to build social housing when they had a big presence on the councils from 2014-2019, and they blew it. The voted No to almost every single council home proposed.

HAP will have to continue until the see-saw is properly tipped in the other direction and we’re at 60,000+ unites being built per year.

  6. This is such a stupid story. SF complaining that the government are helping poor people. That party has just lost all sense of itself.

  7. Subsidizing Landlords is one of the reasons that FG will never get my vote. It’s absolutely insane to think that is good housing policy. If landlords can’t afford their investments they can sell those investments…

  8. This seems a bit disingenuous. Are SF going to cut off rent supports if they get into power? (and don’t give me the argument that SF will magic up new houses overnight with their hundreds of thousands of magic new construction workers)

  9. 10bn to prop up the landed and those with multiple houses. It’s a fucking crime.
