  1. The behaviour of government since 2010 on this matter is going to be the ‘next big legal thing’, probably in a few years.

  2. “The true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members.”
    Gandhi

  3. Nice of them to lay it on 14 years too late just in time for it to delay into Labour’s administration and have the headlines make it seem like it’s Labour’s fault.

  4. Why bother. Every time they run an inquiry or investigation it’s always found that ill/disabled people have been been profoundly let down by the government and nothing ever changes.

  5. The report will say ‘Ill and disabled people have been badly treated’.

The Government will hear ‘We need to crack down harder.’

  6. I posted this to the UK politics sub but it may be of interest here:

This is actually more serious than people realise. I’m having issues myself as a blind person keeping my disabled partner on PIP. They constantly want things sent to them proving she needs a full hip replacement etc. They’re not taking anything I say to them seriously, even though it’s all over her account that she has special needs. I keep insisting that me, as a blind person, shouldn’t have to constantly use AI tools to read her letters and interpret them for her. This investigation can’t come soon enough in my view because if they persist, I’m thinking of taking them to court myself because they’re not making any adjustments for me as a fully blind person assisting someone else.

  7. Why has it taken so long for an Inquiry to be set up? Right from the start of austerity, the ill and disabled were in the firing line. Many found it to be distasteful and cruel to demean and demonize the most vulnerable and least able in society – yet the Government prevailed in their arguments and legislation.

By 2014 everyone could see what was happening to public services, education and the NHS. Yet in the 2015 General Election there were so many selfish fuckers that voted Tory that the cruelty continued.

Let’s face it, over the past 14 years the country has been presided over by a bunch of heartless, cruel, insincere arse-holes that have done nothing other than pursue an agenda of spite, division and hate. Yet they have seen to it that the already wealthy – of which a number live abroad – have got richer whilst the already poor were made to be on the verge of destitution.

Like the Home Office, the DWP has had inadequate and spitefully cruel bastards at the helm, ruining so many people’s lives through inflicting cruel decision making on to the poor, vulnerable and disabled.

  8. I receive PIP, it takes months of reviews and often appeals to get an award/renewal and even if it doesn’t go to a tribunal the reasons given for an award often describe issues that bear no resemblance to my own. I was waiting for the day the DWP penalise me for not matching the description they have on record. Thankfully, I have just been notified I am being transferred to Social Security Scotland, which I hope is far better at dealing with the sick and disabled.

DLA under previous Governments was bad, but PIP seems deliberately designed to be Kafkaesque.
