‘Extraordinary’: Reporter reacts to Soviet-era weapons Ukraine is using to fight off Russia

Some towns they can never let Putin take. And this lipsy is one of them. Destroyed artillery on the streets. Homes aflame from an air strike. They can only move at night. Lights off. It’s a perilous grip they keep. But lose here. And Russian artillery will be in range of Ukraine’s second city, Kharkiv. You can still smell the smoke here from an air strike that landed just in the last hour or so from this block from here. This is life under the drone with the first reporters into the heart of the town. Maybe our only soldiers left here on the ground. The Heartier 13th National Guard first tackled Russia’s new offensive. Watch. Let’s set the light to turn the corner on each side. Do you think they were good enough? Fortifications here. Nibble an inch or two to be little or no. Those initial Well, those initial spots. This is obviously the doorway episode. A lost knowledge that needs to be told. Any prophecy news. So one of us says you can keep it. Okay. Can you talk to get up? There were eight airstrikes just in the last hour. So we leave soon. A buzzing noise near us, very close. And the only way they know whose drone this is is if it attacks the much stronger, you know, all around Target. They don’t have enough guns and the Russians have too many drones. But 92nd Assault Brigade show us something that isn’t even theirs. Russian artillery piece that they captured in the first year of the war in the fighting anarchy region. And now they use strangely French mortar rounds to fire from here. It’s just a sign of how little appropriate ammunition they have available to them. I think we will draw this wire as a protection from drones up above. This is a drone with two battery packs, a long range scout across the basement. It is not friendly here. If you can tell it’s an attack drone. Hide. This seems to be a scout. So running is better before it calls in shelling. Another artillery unit wants to show us something. Not even Russian, but Soviets made in the 1940s. It can still fire newer Polish shells in the autumn. It was 100 a day. Now it is ten. Extraordinary to see something here that’s three times the age of either of these two guys holding back a new Russian offensive in 2024. I say the metal so old that limits the number of times around the that sound warns another drone is incoming. And back in the bunker they show us the online bought $30 gadget. That is their best warning mechanism. The team here embody Ukraine’s exhaustion and resilience. Older guys wounded infantrymen walk. Our tour has thrown shrapnel in his arm. Still. No, no, no. I do want you to know, we just saw an Orlan Russian drone passing overhead. So saying better stay inside on the way back into the city. We see what fuels this defense. This was a lakeside resort. Football, cocktails, a beach. Extraordinary devastation in there to collect the bodies for the National Football League. This was a locomotive which really is attempting to speed to put a truck. A seven months pregnant woman was among the seven dead here. Another body found later just fragments in the mulch. Russia’s advance looms over whatever life persists here, belching out over homes the darkest little salvation. This may be a drone being hit, but they kill too, when they crash in failure. Flares breach the enforced blackout. Moscow is getting nearer again and there are always too many blasts before dawn. Nick Paton Walsh, CNN, Kharkiv, Ukraine.

CNN’s Nick Paton Walsh got exclusive access the heart of the town Ukraine cannot afford to lose, or else Russian artillery will be in range of Kharkiv. #CNN #News

  1. The Russian Armed Forces today destroyed yet another American M1Abrams (MBT), while it was advancing behind Avdiivka. In the area Sokol, just outside Ocheretino, artillerymen of the 27th division of the “Center” group, tracked down and destroyed the M1Abrams. It was hit by an accurate shot from a D-30 howitzer.

  2. I wish that the leader of Ukraine would hire his men to work as hard as for The Line of Saudi Arabias Neom integration real estate developments investments for the peoples kids that work 24/7 7 days a week instead of fighting all the time

  3. It took the Russians half a year to build the Surovikin-Line in relative peace. Ukrainian engineers are trying to dig their own "Surovikin-Line" under very heavy bombardments of Russian aviation. Artillery shells, MLRS, FABs, KABs, ODABS are constantly raining down on those poor engineers and their equipment, making digging trenches very unpleasant work to do….

  4. America has failed Ukraine… America left Afghanistan in most embarrassing way possible. America is being destroyed by an open border. America let down Israel.. America can’t control or stop the small time houthis.. America needs strength and the world needs to know America will
    Be back soon, come November

  5. What about peace talk. You don’t have to like Putin but for the sake of saving lives you still have to talk with him. Let’s be honest. With all the help from NATO. USA you have not been able to defeat Russia. In mine humble opinion it’s time for peace talks.

  6. In 1989 the city of Cincinnati became a sister city to Kharkiv. We established business and cultural ties to the city, and their is a small community of Ukrainian Americans here. It's sad to see this, I always hoped to visit the city.

  7. Führer Zelenskyy has turned Ukraine into a giant concentration-camp. Instead of a defensive-line, barbed wire fences were build to prevent draft-dodgers from escaping. Those who do not want to become a Leopard-driver drown in the river Tisza, those who stay, end up in TCC-razzias and after 9 days of intense training, they are considered ready for the line of combat. So basically no matter which way you run in Ukraine, you are f*cked….

  8. Why is the United States not sending more weapons and ammunition to Ukraine?!!!??? We have honestly sent the least amount of weapons and ammunition. If you go from GDP value, it's not even close to some countries. It's kind of pathetic because we say we are the world's superpower, but it's not like we're acting like it anymore. It's far from it sadly

  9. Don’t worry it will also take over by Russia soon.. your idiot Uncle Joe dreams to defeat Russia will vanish along with next election result .. where his win also will vanish like this way

  10. YouTube is violating freedom of speech: I am sorry that I have to tell you, but Ukraine does not exist anymore, Führer Zelenskyy will sign unconditional surrender very soon. A large part of Ukraine will become part of the Russian Federation, the rest will become a bufferzone and DMZ…

  11. Hunter must've smoked all the billions we've given to the cross dresser over there, because billions of dollars have been deployed. Where did it all go? 😅

  12. George Carlin once said, "It's called the American dream because you have to be asleep to believe it." Well what a rude awakening this must be for many Americans….

  13. Let me guess, Ukraine is using Soviet area weapons. But russians are displaying M1A1 tanks that they capture are displaying in kremlin l very What did ukraibe do with 200 billion dollars of US tax paper money? disturbing.
