  1. It’s weird, it’s almost like I’ve heard this from politicians before…..

  2. Interesting speech detailing his priorities.

He said he would reveal his programme for government before the summer recess, alongside the medium financial strategy and updated infrastructure plan.

Also, something that stood out to me was alongside NHS reform, he also detailed ‘taxation reform’ and an ‘updated taxation strategy’ – wonder what that will entail.

  3. Poverty is an income distribution. It tells us nothing about material deprivation.

  4. Is this another emergency being declared?

Have they not noticed in their last 14 years of government that child poverty has been increasing, and *only now* they should do something about it.

    Wankers.

  5. What a stupid promise.

You can get rid of absolute poverty but you can’t get rid of relative poverty.

You could maybe make massive changes to the entire structure of society and provide excellent childcare, support services, leisure and educational facilities and even food rations all free at the point of use at major cost to the state. All that might help close the gap between kids from poorer families and wealthier ones. But that would need way more changes to society than Scots Gov currently has the power tomake.

Short of all those changes capitalism is an economic choice and the winners and losers it produces are all part of it.

It is like that Danny Dyer quote:
“… I know plenty of people who work hard – it’s just they don’t get paid enough to cover the basics of life.

Now you can say ‘Get off your arse and get a better job.’ All right, say everyone does that. Who’s gonna actually do the shitty jobs then?…”

  6. Let me guess, ignore the wealthy (while claiming they’re your target) and add another few percent to anyone earning over £43k.

I’m sure that’ll get it done. Any day now.

  7. Why do we still have child poverty after all these years of SNP rule?

  8. How many times will we hear this? At this point it would be more refreshing just to hear them admit they have no intention of following up on their wild claims

  9. Gonna abolish capitalism and usher in a classless, stateless society then, John? Great to hear.
