… Egypt literally got caught falsifying/modifying an agreement after Israel agreed to it. I doubt Israel will ever trust Egypt again
I believe Egypt is referring to this article, which is referencing a source from one of the parties.
https://edition.cnn.com/2024/05/21/politics/sources-say-they-were-duped-by-egypt-changing-ceasefire-terms-for-hamas/index.html
Who the fuck would believe Egypt is acting in good faith after the ceasefire that Hamas “agreed” to? Let them withdraw, another country can mediate once Hamas is destroyed.
2024 and we can’t get 3 world leaders on a zoom meeting with a DocuSign document?
They’re trying to put a good spin on the fact that they tried to bypass Israel in the agreement, making a deal with Hamas.
This is disappointing as Egypt has some of the best potential to serve as an intermediary both sides have ties to, if they just own up to the move and put measures in place to prevent it in the future (*ie the basic two steps of an apology*)…
But also given that the move was allegedly made and they’re now responding like this (*indicating they can’t refute it and don’t want to own up to it and make it right*), maybe it is best if they part ways from the situation and allow the world to realize there’s no good nonpartisan mediators which is going to really only allow this to play out militarily. Because if that’s the case, better to acknowledge it and work with it to be as minimally lethal as possible than to try and pretend it’s not true and have it go wild while the focus is elsewhere for solutions.
Hoping for the best here on the diplomatic front though.
But they are doing such a good job!/s
They did it to themselves. They engaged in actions that compromised the mediating process, by changing the agreement after one side voiced their approval and tried to present said altered form to the other side with the first side kept in the dark about the changes. They were not acting as a neutral mediator and have shown favoritism towards one side over the other with their actions.
You do it to yourself, it’s true!
That’s why it really hurts!
Yeah, you do it to yourself, you do!
You and know one else!
You do it to your seeeee’eeeeee’eeeee’eeeelf etc
Get caught red handed mediating in bad faith.
Proceed to play the victim and pretend you’re offended.
Profit(?)
Egypt is terrified of what Israel will discover under the Gaza – Egypt border. The Egyptians profited greatly from all the smuggling going there.
No one is “attempting” to doubt Egypt’s role. They’re doubting Egypt’s role.
And I thought the qatari mediators were shit.
Its role in falsifying documents?
every single time gotta play the victim when its their fault the talks broke down
Egypt is a joke that has gotten its hand caught on the wrong side of things far too often. Turkey and Egypt are not allies. They are fair weather friends at best.
US aid and politicians will push them back to the table…
You can’t fire me, I quit.
You’re not breaking up with me, I’m breaking up with you.
Egypt and the rest of the Arab countries don’t give a shit about Palestinians.
Hamas needs to be totally eradicated tbh.
Egypt definitely derailed that on purpose. They hate the Palestinians more than anybody.
Wild theory: hostages are in Egypt and Egypt is stalling on orders to give Israel a chance to free hostages without making a deal.
Egypt just got rid of the Muslim brotherhood government in their country. They don’t want HAMAS having a country a couple borders over. They want HAMAS out of Palestine as much as Israel.
I still haven’t forgotten that Tourist attraction guard in Egypt thinking it was finally time to start murdering Jews indiscriminately. Religiously brainwashed scum to say the least.
Does anyone else see Egypt’s withdrawal as a good thing?
With their refusal to allow innocent refugees from Gaza to cross their border to tying up aid from heading in the opposite direction, Egypt has been less than a positive influence in the area.
Now their outright meddling in the ceasefire process is a full on pair of black eyes for them.
I mean… you modified the deal and got caught. Dont be mad at others after you get caught that they hold you to account.
Perhaps you should just go cause youve tanked your credibility
