Hello! We’re going through old photos and documents at my mom’s house and found this document from 1901. It’s about my great-grandfather, John Welsch. I’ve tried translating online, but many of the words aren’t found and it just comes out as gibberish.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

It says:
“Wir meister und rat der innung zu ere und buwe der Altenburg bekennen dankbarlich dem ersamen und wysen Herren und Gönner Herrn Welsch New York des obgemelter eine spenden zum buwe eines nuwen palas uff der Altenburg als buwstein zu den costen geben hat. Babenberg A.D. MDCCCCII”
That, I assume, translates to:
“We masters and council of the guild for the honor and construction of the Altenburg gratefully acknowledge the honorable and wise lord and patron Mr. Welsch, New York, for that the above-mentioned has given a donation of the cost of a building block for the construction of a new palace on the Altenburg. Babenberg (i.e. Bamberg) A.D. 1902

Hard to read because it uses ‘non-standard’ spelling to appear medieval. The castle in question was originally built in the 12th century, long before the language was formally standardized. So to emulate that, they just drop all the silent letters and spell the words however they feel like.
