recycled cement from recycled steel, we can build anew from the old.
Pulverised fuel ash, a waste material from coal fired power stations can be mixed with cement (70/30), but this is no longer available for obvious reasons. There are however millions of tons of the stuff in lagoons throughout the UK ready to be dug up!Ground blast furnace slag can be used in about the same proportions, but the decline in the UK steel industry means we must import this from countries like China. Not all plans with supposed green credentials are what they seem – there’s a trade-off which usually ends up with Co2 offsetting and moving the problem further down the road.
