  1. **Mods:** I think think this brings new information to the debate and thus isn’t in breach of Rule 3.

Why the *hell* are the SNP still standing up for this arsehole? What dirt does he have on people? This is the whole Flynn/Grady affair all over again.

Matheson needs prosecuted, not protected. Do you **fucking** job Swinney and stand up for the people of Scotland.

  2. > Swinney says he made mistakes but there has been no cost to the public purse.

*Because* he was caught trying to scam the public out of £11k!! He didn’t fess up by himself, if he had his way we’d still be on the hook for the bill.

Party before Country for the SNP, every single time.

  3. Ffs.

He tried to steal 11k from the taxpayer.

In Westminster, a peer was jailed for that.

    Yousaf assisted with the lie.

    Both should be prosecuted.

Instead Yousaf kept him in post for so long that, even with this punishment and the 11k bill, he is still in a better financial position than had he never tried to steal from us.

Holyrood cannot force a recall, but it can suspend him without pay for the remainder of Parliament.

Now Swinney wants him to stay at the trough instead?

The SNP treat the public like mugs. They have no integrity, no sense of honour and place their cronies before the welfare of the nation.

    Utterly fed up with them.

Will cast my vote in July for whoever will get them out in my seat. I no longer care which party.

  4. This was more than just dishonesty and a financial blunder, it was a cybersecurity failure too.

If my employer discovered that I’d been allowing other people access to my work device? I’d be fired very, very quickly! This is even worse given it is government.

Unfortunate to see that Swinney lacks integrity on the issue.

  5. What an absolute disgrace. I firmly believe there should have been a Scottish Election however I think it was only fair to give Swinney a chance.

In two weeks, he’s shown that nothing has changed and it is business as usual with this lot.

Someone should tell Swinney there is a general election coming up because he has just gifted Labour and the Conservatives with a massive own goal.

Matheson is a duplicitous little parasite and if he had an inch of decency in his snake skin, he’d quit and never show his face again.

  6. >The best way to predict the behaviour of any large institution is to assume it is controlled by a cabal of its enemies.

    — Robert Conquest

  7. Early days but Swinney has made his intent clear, it’s more of the same and not a stroke of difference.

  8. And he’s going to attempt to block the suspension. Exactly as Boris did when his mate was facing suspension from Westminster.

  9. Jesus catfucking Christ, Swinney, you’re supposed to be the safe pair of responsible hands. Not Yousaf II.

    > He describes Matheson as a “good friend” and claims the process had been “prejudiced”

Not like you could be at all “prejudiced” by the fact he’s your “good friend” then?

    FFS.

  10. He’s my MP and I know for sure he’ll be out on his arse done the election.

Bit they need the votes before it closes down for the election

  11. Nice to see Swinney has retained those killer political instincts that made the Holyrood election of 2003, under his leadership, such a… *success* for the party.

  12. Ahh well, if he’s your pal then that’s fine. Thanks John. X

  13. What a stupid hill to stand on.

Surely this is the end of the SNP.

  14. And there goes the contestants, racing towards the first hurdle, elections also on the horizon! This will be an exciting race! What’s this? Swinney seems to have pulled out a pistol and shot himself in the foot before even getting to the hurdle! He seems to be pointing to Wee Dougie as if to indicate that he somehow is responsible.

Ladies and gentlemen, the race is now wide open after this self inflicted wound that comes after two previous DQs for the SNP.

  15. [54 day loss of salary](https://www.holyrood.com/news/view,michael-matheson-faces-27-day-suspension)

    >The committee unanimously backed the withdrawal of Matheson’s salary for 54 calendar days.

and it appears that even the SNP MSPs wanted a significant exclusion

    >Speaking after the convener’s statement, Allan said that while he felt an exclusion was appropriate, the length proposed was “extremely high”.

perhaps Swinney should have concentrated on that?

**Note:** 10 day exclusion in Westminster would trigger a recall, yet Matheson will be able to hang around, like MacKay or McDonald

  16. I wonder if he knows deeply compromising information on some of the former SNP leaders? Could explain it.

  17. Jesus wept. What a fantastically terrible way to start the election campaign period.

Should have just ignored it, and directed any questions about it to the relevant committee.

  18. And of course sanctions can’t be justified for Swinney’s pals.

  19. I heard Matheson also received a severance payment when he stood down as an SG minister. The payout was more than the iPad bill. He has not suffered financially one jot from that debacle.

  20. Swinney backing up Matheson because he “is a good friend” – and announces this in parliament as if it is actually a valid reason.

It’s wild how the SNP are so entitled, and that Holyrood is that accustomed to corruption and sleaze, that Swinney thinks this is acceptable to say out loud in the chamber, and that most people think won’t realise this is naked corruption until it is pointed out to them. This is gaslighting on an Olympic scale.

The SNP would be a disaster for an independent Scotland – it would be ANC levels of self righteousness and graft. Holyrood clearly isn’t working.
