1. I feel like people who’ve never been through it don’t understand the impact and lasting effects.

   Recovery doesn’t equal getting back to who you were before an assault.

   It’s been 15 years and I’m still jumpy. Still don’t interact with him unless I have to (we have a son) and I avoid men.

   I know they’re not all the same.

   I know there are decent, kind men out there and I know women can be abusers too but my mind says *”hide forever, don’t trust, don’t love”*

   It’s a battle. Once someone you love uses physical violence against you it changes the fabric of who you are, permanently.
