Hi peeps of r/Norway! I know there’s been a fair few posts before about roadtrip routes / advice but wanted to put this one out to the community as it’s a little different. (Picture of map is not my planned route but just to show start and end points – I’d be keen to explore some of the west coast too)

I’m coming from the UK (with my dog) in my campervan and aiming to leave sometime around September and spend around 2 months in Norway on the road. Ideally I’d like to capture the tail end of summer and then head up north as far as Lofoten to catch the start of winter and ideally snow.

Most likely will be arriving via ferry from Hirtshals to Kristiansand. I’m not super interested in cities or civilisation, but open to seeing some of it. I’m mainly seeking the great outdoors… fishing, hiking, fjords kayaking, northern lights, snow!! I’m less fussed about the popular Instagram touristy hikes and more looking for a couple of months of serenity.

I wanted to see how people would plan their trip up north from Kristiansand to Lofoten and back. I have around 2 months to do it. Top spots, best route, amazing campsites etc. Any help from you guys to supplement the research I’ve started would be hugely appreciated!

  1. If you have two months to do this you’re doing yourself a huge disservice by not traveling along the western coast and up, there’s basically fuck all to see on your route for half the trip. Start in Kristiansand and cross/stay in the mountains (if possible with your van due to weather) then drive up through the fjords into Trøndelag and continue north that way.
