  1. “Defiant response” seems like a nasty, clickbait title intended to portray the artist in a bad light. It’s also just plain wrong when, if you read the article, the artist does nothing but praise Kate. She also talks about her art creation process and most importantly mentions that she wasn’t even aware of any backlash.

  2. I find it weird that a portrait that a tabloid commissioned has gotten so much attention. People are acting like the palace had involvement.

  3. It doesn’t reflect so bad on the artist, who produced what she produced. It’s art not a photo.

It’s not like the religious icon, where they destroyed the previous work to make a very bad update.

But this is something that probably a couple editors went through and approved. Those are the people who should be blamed.

  4. Nothing about her response is defiant. It explains her process and why she made the choices she did, and expresses a lot of admiration for Kate. Don’t think they’d call it defiant if a white man said the same tbh. Regardless, not all portraits are meant to be in lieu of pictures. I don’t really understand this portrait, but it’s not disrespectful in any way and she clearly put thought in it. At least it doesn’t look like Charles reigning in some weird red hell dimension.
