Yeah the West is to blame for Russia and China’s so-called alliance, that’s obvious when you consider Germany allowed itself to be dependent on Russian natural gas?
Or you know maybe Russia should stop acting like its 1945 and accept they have no right to decide on Ukraine’s future.
As for a new Russia China alliance it won’t work. One they’re both totalitarial, two neither side will accept to be the junior partner and three Russia still holds ancient Chinese territory which China can decide to reclaim at any time it suits their agenda.
In other words a Russia China alliance would all be for show and nowhere near as effective as the US/UK one
Don’t threaten me with a good time. Seriously, China and Russia can go jerk each other off. We don’t need you.
It is important to note that in the aftermath of the Soviet implosion there wasn’t anything like the kind of western funding for Russia as there had been for Poland for example. It’s like governments looked at the vastness of Russia and said it’s a funding blackhole.
In the vacuum of support Russia turned back to strongman leadership in elevating Putin, and the west were happy to play along if it partly filled the power vacuum left after the end of cold war, even though Russia’s economy is only slightly bigger than Spain and it’s military rely on Soviet era planes.
Fuck me, the Russian government comes up with some of the dumbest takes there are.
Maybe, just maybe, don’t threaten to start a war
>will drive Moscow to supply more oil and gas to Beijing
You go ahead and do that, we’ll just celebrate in your face.
While China will never bother Putin with remarks about manipulation of elections, the occasional poisoning of opponents or other totalitarian acts the powerbalance will never be equal. The enemy/ opponent of my enemy is only partly your friend. And states don’t have friends only mutual benefits..
And while a powerdifference does not have to be a major block since more alliances are build with one partner being way more influential then the others it does need some kind of checks to prevent the relation to become unhealthy.
Russia has some thing China needs like oil but also some military tech the Chinese have yet to successfully steal/ copy. But losing the western oil/ gas market will make China the one who sets the rules and prizes. And the remaining tech advance of Russia will last only that long..
Putin does not want to be in the same position as Lukashenko is in regard to Russia.
*”Meanie west won’t let us invade, annex and subjugate eastern Europe.”*
Boo fucking hoo.
As Lukashenko is to Putin, so Putin will become to Xi. I feel this is a thing to be concerned about.
Okey, have fun together. China won’t sacrifice its economy over Russian imperial dream.
Russia continues to act as if China would be their little brother, without asking the Chinese what they think. Didn’t work out during USSR times, won’t work out now.
The only possible Sino-Russian alliance is one led by China. And good luck with that. Just as likely is China dropping Russia, to wash it’s hands and regain good boy points internationally.
