  1. **From Semafor’s Prashant Rao:**

The growing potential of Donald Trump’s return to the White House fills European leaders with “stress and anxiety,” in large part because of the former US president’s proclivity for wild and unexpected policy swings, Kosovo’s prime minister told Semafor in an interview.

Albin Kurti also said that his own poor relations with Richard Grenell — previously a Trump special envoy for peace negotiations between Kosovo and Serbia — “could be a challenge,” were Grenell to secure another senior foreign policy or national security position in a new Trump administration.

Kurti urged Western nations to ease Kosovo’s path to join NATO and the European Union, pointing to increased defense spending amounting to 2% of GDP, a target set by the military alliance for its members.

    “We deserve more,” he said.

  2. Yeah, well, most Americans aren’t thrilled with the idea either.

  3. As well it should. A second Trump presidency will turn the US into a Russian puppet state.

  4. Over 1 million Americans died in Trump’s Covid genocide. There’s a lot of “stress and anxiety” in the US, too.

And Europeans are helping Trump by failing to treat the Ukraine situation seriously and therefore giving Trump some support from Americans who aren’t enthusiastic with the funding situation. Europeans need to do something overwhelming, like Europe-wide conscription or a $1+ trillion aid package to change the conversation.

  5. If they’re so anxious about it, why are so many of them pushing recognition of Palestine and arrest warrants for Israelis right now. President Biden can not win on Israel. He will lose votes no matter how he reacts to both issues. There couldn’t be a worse time for this. Putting these issues in the spotlight and forcing President Biden to take a stance is helping Trump. I feel more upset every time I see a new headline about Palestine. Every ‘protest vote,’ or refusal to vote,’ increases Trump’s chances of winning the presidency.

This isn’t a secret and there’s no way that leaders of other nations don’t see it, so why are they doing it. If they’re worried about a Trump presidency maybe they should stop fueling antagonistic issues that can only lose votes for Biden. None of the pro-Palestine actions taken in the international community can change things on the ground right now. There’s no reason it couldn’t have waited. If Trump regains the presidency in 2024, Palestinians could easily end up in a much more precarious position. If nothing else, Trump will definitely cut off all aid to Palestinians and he certainly won’t limit weapon sales to Israel. I fully believe Trump will take the US out of NATO as well, so I don’t see any upside to this.

  6. The CIA probably now have a scenario where the president gets assassinated for the good of the country…

  7. It fills us common European folk with absolute fear and loathing. I can think of very few worse things than a second trump presidency.

  8. Trump supporters will tell you it’s because he’s a “real leader” who tells it like it is, everyone else will tell you it’s because he’s a piece of childish shit

  9. Europeans can always just spend on their militaries, but then they will lose the election. Better wait until Russia invades more countries.

  10. Trump presidency? Don’t you mean a Putin and Xi presidency and a trump figurehead?

  11. The cowards have all been far too silent on what risk this poses. The world is full of weak leaders and glory hunters.

  12. Imagine how terrifying it is for those of us living in the U.S. then.

Even more terrifying is Biden risking it all by playing both sides of the Israel-Hamas conflict in order to pander to an age group that historically doesn’t show up to vote. I don’t know what his team is thinking. Sometimes it feels like his own people are working against his favor.

But, y’know, European leaders could make it a little bit easier on Biden —to save the world from a Trump Presidency 2.0— and stop bending over backwards to appease their own violent extremists and instead stand tall and put pressure on Hamas.

  13. Probably because President Trump ensured NATO countries paid their fair share (% of GDP to defense spending) and the US wasn’t footing the bill for Europe’s defense.
