“Some of you may die, but it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make…”
I’m sure labour will pick up the baton and reintroduce when they get in…
tl;dr Parliament is shutting down because of the election so pretty much everything is put on hold.
Shame, because it’s not like you can get cheap illegally imported tobacco all over the place.
I always find purdah amazing. Surely, like working your notice, you give a date and then you actually finish things up! Laughable that they just stop working and everything just stops
Why is there so much similar news doing the rounds today? Every new government policy has been shelved because of the election, we don’t need an article from the papers about each.
Labour have committed to doing it too and the nanny state lovers will rejoice.
Adults. Adults, not being able to choose what they do with their own body. Its a fucking disgrace. Just as weed being illegal is.
Fucking despise the mentality that the government should force you to be healthy. And its so inconsistent! Why dont we ban fat people from fast food? Save the NHS am I right?
Wait, he explicitly referenced this as an item on his meagre list of accomplishments in [his speech last night](https://news.sky.com/story/rishi-sunaks-full-speech-announcing-general-election-on-4-july-13141431):
> we will ensure that the next generation grows up smoke-free.
Now he’s not even doing that? He’s fucking hopeless.
😂
He literally brought this up in his wee exit speech as something he’d achieved.
But only yesterday when he announced the election he promised our future children would not smoke because of his policy.
I’m sure the drug dealers with very happily pick up the slack
I’m a smoker that wishes I’d never started and am struggling to quit
The reason I am not in favour of a smoking ban is that it will literally do nothing. Within the day there will be black market tobacco that is far, *far* cheaper than what we buy today
It will *lower* the barrier of entry to smoking.
If my dumb 13 year old ass could get cigarettes from 10 different people on command 4 years ago, before any ban was even in the cards, there will always be someone who will find them. Hell, tobacco is shit easy to grow.
He literally banged on about that this morning as something he was doing that was great
Here come the bootleged ciggies and the crime that will come with it. Not that bootleged ciggies aren’t here already but other crime doesn’t surround. It. Wait till the ban comes into effect and the money involved with bootlegged ciggies will rise. There will soon be violence.
My work colleague told me about a time they used to smoke in the offices and the shop floor , I can’t even imagine it . I’m an ex-smoker also but damn that must be an horrible office to sit in
The only good thing the Tories have ever proposed, lol
I don’t really agree with it to be honest I understand that smokers add to the costs of the NHS ok well give them a cut of the load of tax that is added to cigarettes. The only thing that is going to happen is you will have an illegal sales of cigarettes pop up. Then you will have the same issue just with crime being funded better.
Smoking should be banned. It’s propped up entirely by evil mega money corps and bent governments burying evidence on its harm for decades.
All other recreational drugs should be legalised. But smoking should be banned.
So one of the few good things he’s done is being cancelled…
Banning fully grown adults (when children grow up) from deciding to have a puff.
Bring on 0 seats.
