European here. Never saw this gesture in my life. And yes, I do believe it’s creepy.
I am European and we don’t do that
European too, I’ve seen. Not everyone does it but it’s probably a less taboo thing than in USA.
Of course it is weird in our world where social standards and behaviours are increasingly copied from the USA due to social media/media pressure, and if it is not weird somewhere today it will be in a few years, nobody wants to be seen as “weirdo”. However i remember my grandmothers and my mother used to kiss me on the lips when i was little, yea so what ?
Anglocentric views.
Not all Europeans, many of us see that as super weird as well. I grew up and saw it happening in other families – guess it’s all about habits.
In the old days kissing was just like handshake. Not something you only do with your partner. If you google you can find even pictures of communist officials kissing non erotically.
Sometimes children saw their parents kissing, they want the same kiss, the same love but it’s different. So few parents will kiss their lips and children quickly realize they fell nothing, don’t understànd why. It is dismissed quickly.
They can also try with their sisters, brothers, not only their parents.
It’s part of their learning process about different love as being naked, wearing clotches.
It’s not common, not an european thing. They quickly forget about it. It’s just children’s curiosities… So i’m pretty sure it can happen anywhere where french kiss is common in couple.
Not only on the lips, and not just kiss.
What’s next? Sitting naked in a sauna is an orgy?
Not everything has to be sexualized… I still kiss my mom on the mouth as a short greeting. It’s not a full French Kiss that lasts two minutes…. Jesus Christ.
I’m a daughter and my dad never kissed me at all. He always treated me like he could broke me or something. After I got married he kissed my hand though. LMAO
Our nan used to kiss us on the lips right until she passed when I was my late teens : )
Also recall being lip kissed by most of my female relatives when I was child.
