Does anyone know how to operate this thermostat?

  1. I’ve got half a dozen of these in my apartment. Generally, clockwise hotter, counter clockwise colder, but what does the switch do and what do the numbers correlate to?

  2. Yes. It’s an automatic regulation. Inside is a spiral.

Depending on the adjustments normally 3 is 21 degree Celsius at about.

If you turn it uip you hear a click. That means now it should get warmer in the room.
It can take some hours if it shows effect.

If night and day Modus is activated depends also on adjustments.
In nights the temperature is set lower.

If you found the best adjustment for you you can keep it at the number you have chosen and it will always be the same temperature.

    Regards.

  3. Generally speaking, setting 1 corresponds to roughly 5°C, and each number is at a 5°C interval. Room temperature is usually around 20°C, which is 4 on the dial.

The lowest setting is 5° for a reason: if you want to leave an unused room (or even the whole house, if you’re away for a long period) unheated during the winter months, you don’t want the water to actually freeze in the pipes.

The three-way switch at the top enables you to switch between night mode and day mode; typically, night mode is a little cooler (it saves energy and it’s better for sleeping). Setting the switch to the clock symbol will have it automatically switching between day and night mode, presumably with a timer on the boiler that you can set.

Because this is a mechanical thermostat, you can hear it click when it switches off and on. You can turn the thermostat up quite high: once the room has reached a temperature that is comfortable for you, you slowly turn the thermostat down until you hear the click.

  4. The moon = the heating never works = off

The sun = the heating will work 24/7

The clock = the heating will work according to a programmed time shedule, probably from 8:00 to 18:00 daily or something like that. At night it will reduce the temperature for 5 degree. I don‘t know whats programmed in your case, those numbers are common.

The numbers are the preferred room temperatures, 3 should be around 20 degree Celsius. But find out for yourself, they are not accurate. That‘s why they are numbers and not degrees, so that the users won‘t complain after measuring it themselves.
