A small-scale village in Italy where the walls of the Middle Ages are still alive.

  1. Plenty of Italian cities have their medieval walls almost intact, Rome has the Aurelian walls still very well preserved in many parts (the 1800 years old walls)

  2. I’ve been there! That’s Monteriggioni, there’s also San Gimignano nearby, I go there quite often (it’s my boyfriend’s hometown). It’s a really beautiful area.

  3. So is a defending army meant to make use of the fortifications here? Can’t imagine the village itself would be able to put up much of a fight, walls or no. How would all this actually work? Would it be a small scale town watch sort of deal, for anti-bandit work? Couldn’t be many people living there.

  4. Absolutely stunning. If I spent a day in there, I’d probably smoke a little and fantasize about my favorite RPG games. Those walls need defending.

  5. Anyone have an idea how much it would have cost in terms of money/labor for a town like this to build walls? It must have been a sizable investment for such a small community.
