Ohio governor calls special session to pass legislation ensuring President Biden is on 2024 ballot

  1. Would this actually pass? I’m guessing it won’t and in a few years we’ll just get used to the idea of Republican states not having the Democratic presidential nominee on the ballot.

  3. This is a dumb issue. Given that the state previously passed exemptions for candidates in 2012 for Romney and 2020 for Biden when their nomination happened after the deadline, it is a no brainer to do the same here. It kind of shows how poisoned and extreme the right has become that they didn’t just fix it without having to do a special session.

  4. The GOP is again doing everyone a favor by only threatening to shit in the nation’s pants… while actually only sharting and pissing in them.

    DeWine’s done with the games being played in the Ohio Statehouse. Special sessions of the Ohio General Assembly are rare.

DeWine realizes that a) keeping Biden off the ballot may have adverse effects for Moreno’s Senate chances given it will likely anger some otherwise-apathetic Dem.-leaning voters and turn them out for Sherrod while dampening Republican turnout among voters who come out primarily for Trump (a lot of whom are in the Ohio River Valley area), and b) increase the chances of Biden losing the popular vote while winning the electoral college, which could lead to a spike of support among the Republican rank-and-file for moving away from the electoral college as how we determine presidential victors.

  10. This screams that the insider baseball polling of Ohio isn’t looking strong for Trump. They are nervous he isn’t going to take Ohio.

  11. This is gonna be real awkward when the GOP appoints a new candidate at their convention after Trump becomes a felon. Any younger and half sane Republican would beat Biden because the News Media would all fawn over how they are so much younger than Biden.

  16. The Republican party is in its death throws. Once Trump is finally toppled they will be in shambles and they know it. They’re doing everything they can to fight for their lives (livelihoods). We must resist these attempts to thwart democracy and put the nail in the coffin of the Republican party.

    It’s amazing that this has gone this far. If I am not mistaken, didn’t the supreme court recently ruled that only Congress had the power to remove someone from the ballot?

  22. Governor DeWine delivers sometimes and I’m grateful for this. I’m grateful for his support of trans kids despite his signing of legislation that makes trans care more difficult to access. State of confusion
