Comments are going to be interesting. I feel people either 100% support him or 100% dislike him with zeeeeeero in the middle.
Ultimately I think fair play to him. See what happens
Will give those who care more about Gaza than this country someone to vote for.
I suppose a fitting end to his career would be to cost labour another seat whilst coming out with questionable comments that his cultists will claim “what he actually meant was {{insert opposite of what he said}}”
Good luck. Democracy allows anyone to stand and have a voice. I hope his followers finally accept democracy and rejection when defeated
Hope he wins. Used to live in his constituency and be was always a great local MP who was really engaged with his community. Shabbily treated by Labour, and the local branch should have been the one to decide whether he’s their candidate or not.
I think this is fair enough. The Labour Party has behaved awfully towards left wing members and has expelled most of them. Former Labour people were forced out don’t owe Labour anything. If they want to stand their own candidates and make their own left wing case, that’s a normal political move.
I think Labour could be in real trouble here. Corbyn has held the seat continuously since 1983. It’s a safe Labour seat so it could be the “monkey in a red rosette” effect, but I don’t think so. In 2010 when Labour government was chucked out and 2015 when the Conservatives secured an overall majority, Corbyn increased his share of the vote. This suggests people were voting for him personally regardless of the national trend and party loyalties.
He can sit with the Tories on the opposition benches.
The amount of news articles these sites have been able to generate from Corbyn standing is insane.
Honestly, I can’t imagine there are many better people to have as your local MP. His ideas on foreign policy might be extremely questionable, but none of that really matters on a local level.
I hope he gets in. Parliament is better for a few annoying radicals.
Hope Labour can put their pride away and not split the vote to make it possible for the Tories to get something.
He’ll win unless Labour pick a Very strong candidate
I think it is unwise. It’s going to split the vote.
The 17 and 19 Labour manifestos were the best political platforms I’ve had the opportunity to vote for in 18 years as a voter. They didn’t win obviously but in purely political terms it was refreshing to actually have substantial change and a genuine left wing option to vote for.
Pure spite and ego.
He knows this will negatively effect Labour’s optics, damaging the perception of the only party that can stop the Tories, potentially costing them votes. And I say this as someone who voted Labour in the 2017 and 2019 GEs.
The amount of people who are still apparently triggered by JC even though he’s been booted out the party and most of his shadow cabinet purged is startling.
I genuinely think this is where he is at his best, local, grassroots politics.
I wish he had formed a party maybe with an alliance pledge with the Greens.
It’s going to be the biggest landslide win for any constituency in the UK mark my words! There is no way anyone in Islington is going to stand a chance against him.
To call him naive is to not understand what naive means..
