Bremen and the western Emsland is often referring to as „little Siberia“ due to heavy use of liqueurs such as vodka. I once celebrated Silvester there. They don’t have beer… like AT ALL… they have Korn (Schnaps made from wheat, rye or oat) especially Berentzen. They have Korn with Coke, Fanta, Sprite, juice, whatever… and they don’t mix it up like 1-2 shots Korn + rest of the pint some coke or whatever… they do it half and half…
I don’t remember a lot from that evening…
Denmark has a bad influence
Alcohol isn’t the problem. This map has nothing to do with alcohol consumption. Happy to see my country doing well and most people learn in their teens about alcohol management and they stay safe for the rest of their lives.
England breaking stereotypes.
Funny, Spain has pretty high alcohol consumption rate, but very few deaths by alcohol abuse.
Damn bro almost like alcohol consumption and abuse gets normalised (and even expected) beyond a reasonable degree.
Alcohol isn’t evil I’m not a prohibitionist or nothing but it is kind of eery how alcoholism is sort of seen as nothing special in some places.
Slovenians are just Zagorci confirmed
Honestly there is no way that czechia is magically better in this regard. What this really shows to me, is that medical professionals here just blame alcohol deaths on other things. “Liver failure” for instance.
Alcoholism is extremely normalized here to the extent that people just don’t even see it. Just look at our fucking president. The dude is basically pickled to the point that his legs don’t work, his liver is on the verge of collapse and he shits himself regularly. However I’m sure when he dies it will be due to “diabetes” rather than the fact that the fucker has drank 6 shots of vodka a day his entire adult life.
I feel Romania data is wrong. It’s like that quote from chernobyl
3 rongen not great not terrible.
As far as I know there are no alcohol rehab clinics. If you need help you go the the psych ward
Slovenia??? How can it worse than HUN?
I somehow dont believe the numbers for Bulgaria. I know way too many people who died of alcohol cirrhosis or are currently suffering from it. I also talked to a friend who was training in a hospital and he said that basically 95% of the people with liver conditions are due to alcohol and its full.
Or the map might be showing the deaths of overdosing only.
The deadliest area of Sweden is naturally the part nearest Denmark lol
Surprised to see Ireland is on the lower end as our government jacks up the price of alcohol at every opportunity saying we have a terrible drink crisis and need to be nannied for our own good
Interesting how the puritan southern part of Norway, has a higher rate than most of the country. (Not surprised at the rate in the northern part).
Lubelskie be like: “no such thing as death cause of alcohol, he died because of natural causes”
Damn why is Denmark so much worse off than our Nordic neighbours? This is a depressing map.
Did we (Finland) beat the Dutch?
Czechia overflowed? Or do they just not track these deaths?
Cheers Slovenia!
The Pomeranian voivodeship (“Pomorskie” on the map) is a very popular tourist destination in Poland. We also get a lot of foreigners looking for cheap vacations abroad. So if were to guess, I’d say that the mixture of drunken tourists and the sea leads to predictable results.
Really surprising map. Must have something to do with how deaths are recorded.
Czechia practically looks healthy?
And Slovenia is about the most alcohol deadly?
And look at Romania, not much of a problem there?
And those areas of Germany near Bremen and Hanover are very high, but is the death rate really twice as bad as Munich or southern Germany?
Denmark drinks, but did we know it’s killing them at that rate?
And honestly didn’t we all think Lithuania would be much worse?
And judging by the pub behavior of Brits, how are they not dying more regularly?
And the extremes in Poland are surprising, the Gdansk area is so much worse than the south eastern border?
Even with a government monopoly of alcohol in Sweden it doesn’t seem to do any better than its neighbors (With Denmark being Denmark). In fact its worse than many part of the Uk and southern Europe.
Seems like the monopoly does not help at all.
russia’s like ‘thank god they left us out of this”
I like how Russia, Belarus and Ukraine is just gray.
I think the most interesting part of this is northern Ireland and the rest of Ireland.
Czech Republic probably does not count beer related deaths.
Go Poland! 😎
lithuanians just don’t die from it, otherwise we’d be number 1
Hebrides you good
We must do better Scotland!
Standards are slipping.
Hainaut, East Flanders, Liège. I’m absolutely not surprised. Luxembourg, well there’s nothing else to do there but to walk in the forests, so I can’t blame them.

Is Germany that depressing?
Need to ban alcohol
Why is Slovakia and Australia so high?
