Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has arrived in Belfast.

It follows his announcement of a general election for 4 July, earlier this week.

Mr Sunak travelled to England, Scotland and Wales on his first day of election campaigning.

Addressing a distribution centre in Derbyshire, he said he had a "clear plan" for financial stability.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer kicked off his campaign at Gillingham Football Club in Kent where he said a vote for Labour was a vote to "turn the page".

Northern Ireland's political parties set out their stalls on Thursday also.

While some of the party leaders said they had been waiting patiently, others said they were surprised by an election in six weeks time.

In February, Mr Sunak and the then taoiseach (Irish PM) Leo Varadkar visited Stormont to mark the return of power-sharing in Northern Ireland.

  1. Don’t we have enough to contend with. Bet he turns up with a kiss me am Irish hat and tries to Irish dance.

  2. I’d respect them more if they just didn’t bother turning up here. Nobody here is voting for you here Rishi and we all know it.

  3. A charm offensive from a charmless squib.

    No thanks.

  4. They’re not even running candidates here. Another well thought out Tory mess.

  5. How well would the “looking forward to the Euro’s” line that fell flat in Wales, work in a Belfast pub?

  6. He isn’t interested in getting votes from us, he is interested in getting votes from far right Reform UK / deny TUV votes by implying he believes ‘Northern Ireland is British’

  7. I’ll meet him for a fair dig in the Mournes and take him to Bunsens after for a 1/4 pounder

  8. Using up the last of the petty cash being wined and dined.

  9. Perhaps his campaign team have decided their best chance for victory is to make sure Sunak isn’t seen anywhere near a constituency where the conservatives are on the ballot paper. Could hardly blame them. He’s making Theresa May look like a top campaigner.

  10. I’m wondering between him and us… who is the least thrilled by that news.
    🙂

  11. See I seen on the news them migrants are coming over to Ni to head to the south to avoid Rwanda, Rishis soon out of the job, he’s not so slow

  12. Anyone know when he is leaving? I’m flying back this afternoon and don’t want to get caught up with his shite

  13. Probably coming to do a victory lap about the Executive going again, but they and unionists don’t realise that British voters couldn’t give a damn about what happens in NI. Most will not have even heard of the Windsor framework or have the slightest clue what it is about.
