    i mean, i know there isn’t really a mechanism to do that in the charter, but what can be done is we can redefine hungary’s status as ‘not participating’ – as in – doesn’t get intel reports, troops aren’t placed in or cooperate with hungary during maneuvers, etc.

    basically if a shooting war breaks out, hungary won’t be directly attacked, but otherwise is totally ignored and no one passes t hem any strategic intel.

    a) Hungary gets to become a Russian oblast, which is what they want and deserve.

    b) Russia gets the expansion that it wants.

    c) Ukraine gets peace

    d) EU and NATO get to have grown-up conversations without the snooty cry-baby at the table.

  33. NATO and the EU are useless if bureaucracy prevents Russian/Chinese satellite states from being kicked out. Some common sense has to prevail where, despite no formal mechanism, you have to decide when it’s a security threat to have a member remain.

    There’s certain standards and criteria for getting into those organisations in the first place so why wouldn’t those standards be perpetually monitored and need to be upheld? If the EU started today Hungary likely wouldn’t qualify.

    Have independent committees give yearly audits to member states. When they are failing give them things they need to do to maintain membership and failing that suspension until things are rectified.

    Imagine Belarus trying to apply for either right now? If Hungary is going down that path they shouldn’t remain just because they were already in.
