Putin accuses the West of fueling conflicts on WWII Victory Day • FRANCE 24 English

turning now to Moscow where Russia held its annual Victory Day Celebrations marking its World War II defeat of Nazi Germany under President Vladimir Putin the holiday has become a display of military prowess and a pillar of Russian identity used to justify his invasion of Ukraine for more I’m joined onet by our International Affairs editor kavan gorani kavan what did we hear from Vladimir Putin in his big Victory Day speech today well uh there was a different tone from the one we saw uh last year and you have to put that into the context of the war in Ukraine last year the situation for Russian troops was not great and they’re doing much better right now at least on the battlefield and so uh you saw the ceremony with more servicemen uh marching more military hardware on display there was a fighter jet flyover and even in the speech uh of of ladimir Putin he uh didn’t really uh focus on uh the actual war in plane or the special military operation as he calls it he did mention it but it was more about uh the sort of broader uh battle between Russia and the West rather than talking specifically about uh the war in Ukraine whereas last year he was talking about a real war for survival for Russia when it came to Ukraine so uh this was an attempt by Vladimir Putin to sort of uh display this confidence given what is happening on uh the ground he accused the west of fueling conflicts around the world he accused them of hypocrisy and lies and of attempts to excuse modern Heirs of the Nazi this of course a reference uh to uh the stated goal by the Russians which was the denazification of Ukraine so the modern Heirs of the Nazis are the Ukrainian and so he’s accusing the west of sort of helping uh them uh he also took the time to remind everyone in a not so subtle hint about Russia’s uh nuclear power he said that Russia will do everything to avoid a global conflict but we will not allow anyone to threaten us our strategic forces are always in combat Readiness so this was really to show uh Russia’s Force Russia’s confidence at a time where they are making gains on the battlefield yeah Russia has been doing well kavan but you know long stalled aid for Ukraine is fin picking up again the US passed an aid Bill finally last month and now the EU has agreed in principle on using profits from Frozen Russian assets to help Ukraine tell us about that absolutely and they’ve been discussing that for quite some time whether it’s within the EU or uh the broader Western allies of uh Ukraine and there were two main obstacles for the Europeans one uh were the sort of Economic and legal ramification uh as to how do you seize assets and this is why they went for seizing the profits of the frozen assets rather than the assets themselves because they felt that legally it was much more sound to go after the profits rather than the assets themselves then there was how and what do you use this money these profits on in Ukraine because you have to get all 27 members to agree and not everyone wants to or can actually send lethal Aid to uh Ukraine I’m thinking of course of uh Ireland of Austria or Hungary for different reasons so they needed to find a way uh to get those countries to approve uh the the sort of agreement without having to send a military aid and so they’re splitting uh this into 90% of military aid and 10% in nonlethal support to Ukraine and the countries will be able to abstain strategically from one or the other uh depending on their position that’s about3 billion EUR this year uh at least with about a billion euros if this PR this agreement goes through 1 billion expected to be available as early as the summer which could be a mean a lot for the ukrainians and Ursula under lion had this quote on X saying there could be no stronger symbol and no greater use for that money than to make Ukraine and all of Europe a safer place to live this is a very good uh start for the ukrainians and there is more talk about possibly going after more of these profits whether it’s in the US or in the G7 as a whole in the G7 of course meeting in a couple of months wow yeah it’ll be interesting to see when all that Aid finally starts paying off again on the battlefield kavan thank you so much for that that’s our International Affairs editor kavan gorgani

  4. The US did promise Gorby and the Russians multiple times that NATO would not move one inch eastward. All lies. Merkel negotiated the Minsk Accords in bad faith, since later she admitted that they were only a delaying tactic in order to give the West time to arm Ukraine for the proxy war they were planning.

Despite the relentless propaganda of the western media everyone knows this truth by now. You should listen to his speech where you will hear many truths but also hope for our planet.     And when the West/Nato stand up against the russians they starts to whine and blame Nato for escalating and prolonging the war.
