Student history teacher, I just love when I find these hidden gems so close to my home in limerick. We actually have one of the oldest post boxes just a few minutes drive from me, I’m sure this one is also touching that age group!
I presume it means Queen Victoria? I’d love to know how old it is..
Fun fact it’s actually a bee hive, not the bad ones thankfully! A hive for honey

its 186 – 122 years old
There’s a few ER ones still around too
It means “Victoria Regina”. It’s about 140 years old.
Saw this one in Kilkenny (I think)

A neighbour of ours has a P&T one build into their pillar.
Not as old at this one obviously, but still pretty cool nonetheless.
On the big ones you can see the cypher and work out how old it is. [Here’s the guide](https://www.postalmuseum.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Royal_Cyphers_1837-2022-1200×675.png)
There’s a Queen Victoria one in my town which is an interesting bit of history to walk past
[This blogger went around photographing old ones around the country](http://www.patrickcomerford.com/2017/08/a-long-search-for-fast-disappearing-pre.html)
I saw one on Kinsale where the royal cipher was filed off and replaced with “SE” for Saorstat Eireann in the 1920s, that’s apparently quite rare.
I reckon they should have painted the railroads green and ripped out the postboxes
