How hard is this trail to Preikestolen?

  1. Let’s start with asking some questions. Have you hiked before and for how long

  2. If you are not in a terrible shape, there is no problem at all. This is not a technical difficult hike.

  3. Marking it as «Expert» is an exaggertion. I would describe it as medium difficult. With some good hiking shoes and decent fit there will be no issues.

  4. There is one small passage, the last few meters out to the plateau, that _can_ be dangerous. It normally isn’t, but take care because it is a 400 meter fall if you slide out. People go there with toddlers!

The path is steep, but the worst bits have been replaced with steps.

According to the official page for Preikestolen the path is rated as moderately difficult. The round trip, up and down, takes between 4 and 5 hours.

  5. Lol, this is really easy if you have an okay shape. Even out of shape tourists do this one 🙂 no worries!

  6. In before the new articles about (yet another) inexperienced and warned by locals “hikers rescued by helicopter” at tax payers expense.

  7. If this is the normal route to Prekestolen then over weight tourists do it in white shirts, jeans and moccasins. I would not as there are better clothes for hiking. But it is not difficult.

Its a scramble up some old rockslide, and the last part that can be a bit exposed.

  8. Who marked this as expert, lol. Anyone who can walk for a few hours can make this trip. The start is pretty steep, but once you’re past the initial incline it’s a stroll.

I would recommend going in the off season though, or at least don’t go on a weekend. It’s a tourist trap and can be pretty crowded.

  9. The hike is not that heavy. And it has become easier over the last decade because the trails have been made more accessible.
