  1. So be clear, the radioactivity was measured after Chernobyl and attributed to Chernobyl while actually a large chunk was already there from the past nuclear testing.

To give some perspective, [here](https://arxiv.org/pdf/1807.04340) is the radioactivity in French wine (very consistent “snapshots” as they are the same plant harvested, processed and stored always in the same manners years after years).

This is true also in Japan: is has been drenched in radioactivity long before Fukushima ([air](https://i.imgur.com/AeGGXyb.png), [source](https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/Atmospheric-radioactivity-over-Tsukuba%2C-Japan%3A-a-of-Igarashi-Kajino/90ed0aae89e25746f371cc6dabb04d2d77740105), [land](https://i.imgur.com/nRSOa1R.png), [source](http://www.iph.pref.hokkaido.jp/eiken_housyanou/fallout_link.htm) and [sea](https://i.imgur.com/VWJxXdw.png), [source](https://www.ocean-sci.net/14/813/2018/#&gid=1&pid=1)).

Fun fact: the tests polluted the entire planet that [low background steel](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low-background_steel) became a precious resource; try guessing its primary source.
