NATO’s boss wants to free Ukraine to strike inside Russia

I think the time has come for allies to consider whether they should lift some of the restrictions they have put on the use of weapons they have donated to uh to Ukraine uh because especially now when a lot of the fighting is going on in har close to the Border uh to deny uh Ukraine the possibility of using this weapons against legitimate military targets uh on Russian territory makes it very hard for them to defend themselves so to be clear you’re asking the US to lift the restrictions on the use of American weapons over Russian territory I believe the time has come for allies to consider whether should lift some of the restrictions that are imposed on weapons donated to Ukraine um because we need to remember what this is this is a war aggression by Russia against Ukraine Ukraine has the right to defend themselves and that includes also striking Targets on Russian territory um some allies have already lifted those restrictions allowing to use their weapons against milary Targets in Ukraine and I believe the time has come for all allies to consider this the UK has effectively lifted the restrictions and it is the US that’s really the single most important one I think what we see now uh demonstrates the need to reconsider those restrictions not least because we have fighting going on along the border between Russia and uh and Ukraine especially in the har region where the front line and the borderline is more or less the same and then of course If you deny Ukraine the right to hit military Targets on uh Russian territory then uh uh you make it very hard for them to uphold the right for self-defense this is self-defense self-defense is ens Shrine the new and Charter it’s legal it’s legitimate and we uh are helping Ukraine with upholding that right and that should include the ability to also strike targets uh on Russian territory when they are military legitimate targets we’re talking about

NATO’s secretary-general, Jens Stoltenberg, has called on allies to lift restrictions on Ukraine’s use of NATO weapons inside Russian territory.   25. For over two and a half years, Ukraine fought with one hand tied behind its back. NATO allies, particularly the US and Germany, clung to a misguided restriction on striking Russia with Western weapons. This bureaucratic paralysis, disguised as caution, came at a devastating cost in Ukrainian blood and territory. Only now, when Ukraine's resources are stretched thin, do these 'allies' even consider loosening the leash.
