  1. Blanket anti-GM sentiment is as unscientific as anthropogenic climate change denial.

Edit: sadly climate change isn’t anthropomorphic.

  2. If they would die without rice, why not plant the normal one and make it free for everyone?

  3. Golden rice is the best example of GMO being used for good and Greenpeace thinks it being GMo is enough reason to block it?

  4. I would like to see a venn diagram of anti gmo people and chemtrail people.

  5. There is no scientific evidence that GMOs are harmful for humans or for the environment. It’s just another conspiracy theory.

  6. Fuck greenpeace; we can stop blindness in countless children across the world but you would rather not?

  7. The usual BS from Greenpeace

Between anti GM and anti nuclear, they are arguably grifters and might have done more damage overall to the environment since the 90s than they have prevented

  8. Thing about the Philippines is, they elected Marcos, so that court is purely decorative

  9. Thing about the Philippines is, they elected Marcos, so that court is purely decorative

  10. Greenpeace is trash. Ruined public opinion on nuclear power and GMOs

  11. Greenpeace is a terrorist organization and should be treated as such.

  12. Malnourishment and nutrient deficiencies are better than GMO? Fuck that.

Rice planted today, like every other crop, is already heavily genetically modified by humans and looks nothing like it did originally.

  13. It’s neat that we have articles like this to make us blame an NGO instead of corporate greed and government corruption, the real causes of poverty that starves children.

  14. Keep the hungry and poor as they are. That way, they never advance to challenge you.

  15. They may as well stop eating. Everything is a GMO, GMO doesn’t require a lab or test tubes lol. Cross breeding and selecting certain mutations is O

  16. Hmm.. I’m beginning to think Greenpeace doesn’t have humanity’s best interest at heart.

  17. Oh my God I can’t believe there’s another story about Greenpeace being fucking terrible again this is so unexpected

    They’re worse than PETA

  18. The concept of GMO crops cross pollinating and thus drifting their genes into other crops is certainly a concern when Monsanto was suing farmers for patent infringement over such genetic drift, and with farmers in turn suing Monsanto for contaminating their heirloom crops. Catastrophes of legalities?

  19. The Guardian’s reporting (and others) has been so clickbait-y lately, I looked up some of the original documents. And it sounds like there were just some problems with the permitting paperwork that the court wanted fixed. The government is going to appeal and fix it but most experts think farmers can still plant golden rice.

“The lawsuit, filed in 2022, hinges on a Philippine legal remedy called the Writ of Kalikasan. It protects the constitutional right to “a balanced and healthy ecology” and prioritizes that right over human activities that may have an environmental impact, according to the court decision.

The other option for the government is to appeal to the Supreme Court. This would give the **court an opportunity to “provide more guidance on the standard of evidence that a party needs to present in order to show that a crop or an act is harmful or safe for the environment,” Dy says. If the government goes that route, he thinks the Supreme Court could overturn the decision.** But the process could take at least 2 years, he says.

In the meantime, PhilRice may have no choice but to comply with the current decision, as rulings on environmental cases are not normally stayed on appeal, Dy says.

**Greenpeace contends currently planted Malusog Rice will have to be destroyed, but Dy says there is nothing in the decision to support that claim.”**

Why do so many news outlets write stories like these nowadays? Every article is alarmist virtue signaling, and when I check the source material, the data or quotes have been badly misrepresented. Are there just no processes anymore? No editors? No factcheckers? It’s crazy – the Guardian is supposed to be a reputable paper and I feel like it’s actually become one of the worst papers to read if you want learn things and be informed.

  20. Greenpeace is one of those organisations that has been undemined so long ago and does everything possible to make anything green or even perceived as green to look bad. Most of the original members left the org for that very reason. There’s a whole documentary on it iirc.

Same thing with the idiots gluing themselves to things.

  21. Perhaps at some point the world will realize Greenpeace is a terrorist organization pretending to care about the environment
