  1. So weird. I have no clue. Maybe background check info? But because it says something about a stigma being attached, I really just don’t understand what this means. I can’t think of any law enforcement records that my husband had other than a background check and that junk.

  2. Perhaps records related to his security, back when he had publicly provided security? Information on his Vegas partying, and maybe more scandals we don’t know about.

I agree that it’s odd. I believe it’s assumed that he has a head of state A-1 visa, which is indefinite so long as he is in line for the throne. So wouldn’t his application be from years ago, either when he was a child or just after he’d turned 18? What would be included in that?

Also, the head of state visa is a diplomatic visa. Does that mean he has diplomatic immunity in the US?

I don’t know the implications for FOIA requests generally if the Heritage Foundation wins this case, but I hope it gets released just to solve the mystery.

Edited to add: here’s an interview with a lawyer in 2012 that says that Harry likely has sovereign immunity in the US. That means, if he commits a crime, the only way to charge him is to have the U.K. government waive immunity for him. So, maybe something happened with him, like a DUI, and the documentation ended up in his immigration profile because the visa gives him immunity: https://www.eonline.com/news/342333/do-royals-like-prince-harry-have-diplomatic-immunity

  3. American immigration is complicated. My best guess is that since domestic info can prevent a person from getting a visa, if Harry was granted a visa when a regular person would have been denied, that would look bad.

  4. As an American, I honestly have no clue lol. I would just like to say I hate the Heritage Foundation, which is making this an issue, not least because they want to enact policies and laws to discriminate against schoolchildren who aren’t little white Christian nationalists. It’s insane. They’re always pulling dumbass stunts.

  5. The Department of Homeland Security has stated it couldn’t release the documents as it would be a breach of privacy.

“Courts consistently hold that a person’s visa or immigration status is private, personal information exempt from disclosure,” they stated.

“Specifically, the records would reveal the types of documents that Prince Harry used to travel to the United States, his admission status, and any immigration, or non-immigration benefits that he may have sought.”

  6. I can explain to you that this is yet another pathetic attempt by the corrupt British tabloids to smear this person. They are absolutely despicable. Now you know.

  7. I didn’t read the article but I did immigrate to the US and my guess is it’s related to his title. The US doesn’t recognize them – I remember this from my mountains of paperwork – and they would need to be completely omitted from his certificate of nationalizarion and everything that follows, meaning he’d essentially need to change his name. I wonder if they made a diplomatic exception for him? It is rather unique circumstances.
