2. Granted, Putin lies.

   So do you Zelenskyy, so does the Americans, so does the Iranians, Israelis, Hamas, Germans, Swedes, Norwegians, etc etc.

   We live in a world where politicians lie, and the people accept it.

   Some believe their lies, ***enough*** believe them to keep the regime going.

   But, they all lie. In various degrees, but they all lie.

   And let’s face it, in war the truth is the first victim killed. – On both sides.

3. Even Biden decided to avoid this summit. China won’t participate. What it can achieve?

4. Honestly I think that putin simply doesn’t care about this peace summit and I don’t think that this summit will achieve anything more than lovely proclamations and some press releases since there has been no indication of means and willing powers to actually enforce outcome of it

5. Most likely he is indifferent towards the peace summit. However he must get the reports on his own military melting away, the growing dissent from citizens and the renewed Chinese interest about Vladivostok.

   China could pressure Russia to end this war for a just peace if they wanted to, but they won’t.

10. People keep calling for peace, but then when there’s an initiative like this, they mock it. This is a perfectly good place to start to have a unified Ukrainian position, officially backed up by partners and even some neutral countries.

    India and Saudi attending is already good. I’d rather have a peace plan presented to Russia officially by Ukraine and the West that they can react to and discuss parts they like and dislike, then have no chance for any type of negotiations at all.

13. But putin claims to want peace. One might start thinking that the guy is not telling the truth or something.

14. He has reason to be concerned. Eventually, it will be all about money. The West will start pushing for a negotiated settlement, the terms of which will be unacceptable to Ukraine, but it will stop the West from having to contribute. Without funding, Ukraine will be at risk of losing even more land and lives. They will be forced (by the West) to settle.

18. There is no diplomatic solution, because if the war stops, it will be the Ides of March for Putin. Russia has run up the bill for 500,000 bodies and has no Kiev to show for it. They killed him.

    So in order to survive, Putin will continue to fight.

    Give Ukraine what it needs to defend itself and in doing so protect all of Europe.

    I am afraid that if not properly dealt by insiders, which is taking way too long, this piece of shit dictator will start something bigger when cornered. Not that Russian military is an actual threat to NATO, but before the end some destruction and deaths would be involved.

20. Officially based on Ukrainian constitution Zelensky is not the president since May 21. Who will be representing Ukraine.

21. I think Zelenskyy might be getting his hopes up to unreasonable levels if he really thinks this summit can “force Russia into peace”.  

22. Peace in Ukraine will only be achieved when Putin and Biden (or most likely Trump) sit down and agree on red lines. EU will do as it always does, as it’s told but will continue to make loud noises as if they are relevant. Ukrainians will bleed until that is done. Xi might get involved if there is something in it for them.

28. It’s gonna be a waste of time for every attendee; guess that’s also a reason why Biden won’t be coming. Calling it now: Ukraine will not be ready to make any concessions and keep asking for Russian unconditional surrender, which they have been doing since 2022 and simply use this “peace summit” as a stage to ask for more weapons.

29. No peace summit. Russia wants, as usual, to stop the war when they have made som gains. Then build up again, and continue.

30. Some people here say this summit will provide some basis for negotiation. But for this Zelensky would have to concede some points from his peace formula or otherwise modify it, because the original formula was rejected by Russia, and no wonder since it is basically tantamount to an ultimatum whereas Ukraine is currently not in position to give ultimatums. Therefore all he can do is either ask for more weapons and money (in which case it is anything but a peace summit) or ask others to negotiate with Russia on his behalf (since he prohibited himself to do so).

31. West should be more realistic. They cannot win Russia without starting global ww3 with nucs etc. Russian position is quite clear – no NATO near its borders, Ukraine neutral status, Russian speaking regions as a part of Russia. West counties did everything that they can to start this war.
