Xavi’s return to Barcelona as manager was supposed to be the dream scenario — a club legend coming back to lead the side like only he could. Instead, it turned into a nightmare of toxicity and turbulence that has finally ended in bad taste.

  1. Which makes me respect Xavi even more. Remember boys Pep was handed Golden Spanish generation, Prime Messi coming up, Alves-Abidal-Toure-Eto-Henry in the mix.

  2. That headline only makes sense for someone who didn’t know the club’s financial situation.

  3. I’m no great fan of Xavi the coach, but it’s clear to see coaching is not the biggest problem at Barca right now. The way Laporta 2.0 is doing business is not as different from Bartomeu, despite the prevalent narrative on this board. Even on the financial side, it seems to be a whole lot of smoke and mirrors. I don’t think any coach or player will thrive under this sort of management. The way players seem to be regressing, you can’t help but wonder if these off-pitch issues aren’t the main problem.

  4. I’ll never forget the Xavi return as manager announcement. It felt like something you saw in a movie when the older mentor finally intervenes. It reminded of Zidane’s return after that Benetiz saga, and so it was exciting to see but also somewhat worrying as a Madrid fan lol.

  5. He won the league and destroyed Madrid 4-0 and 3-1 in the Super Cup final. His first year was some of the most entertaining football we’ve seen in years. Most likely could have made the final if Araujo didn’t get a red card. Xavi was a success especially having to deal with Laporta and financial limitations.

  6. I remember during your setien days and Xavi was like the promised messiah that would eventually return and bring back the glory days
