Help! How do I turn this heater on?

  1. Wow, that thing must be nearly as old as me. It belongs in a museum.

Anyway, here’s what the instructions say:

    * Turn selector knob to __*__, press it, and at the same time press the ignition button several times.
    * Keep selector knob pressed for about 10 seconds and then release it.
    * Turn knob to the desired setting (e.g. 4).

And to turn the heater off, turn the knob to select the dot. When set to __*__, only the pilot light is lit.

Take care with this one: the ignition button will probably mechanically squeeze a piezo-electric crystal, generating a spark to ignite the flame. Make sure the flame is lit (you should hear it ignite), because the last thing you want is gas leaking into your room. I *really* hope that thing is properly maintained.

  2. You need to ask someone from the 1960s, because that’s how old that thing is.

Also, as it says “Zündflamme” on the label, don’t touch it.

  3. DON’T use this thing in the same room you are sleeping in. I am serious. There’s an open flame inside and the heater can fill up the room with carbon monoxide. There’s actual cases of people dying because they left this heater running throughout the night.

  4. Omg! I never thought I would see this bastard heater again in my life 😂

This is perhaps the most annoying heater to start in your life…!

If possible, request the landlord to replace it with a new one as it‘s a piece of shit, costly on gas and dangerous as stated in below comments.

Ours was so painful, it required a very specific touch to turn it on… essentially,

Turn the knob to the *, than press and hold the knob down, wait 5 seconds then press the igniter button a couple times until it ignition light starts.

After ignition (which you should be able to see through the little circular glass window) do not release the knob. even after it ignites.

Slowly let some of the pressure off the knob until you can turn it toward the 1, then this will ignite the entire heater (more than just the little ignition light).

Hope this helps, I wasted enough time messing around with that thing!
