Fuck. Those guys think they can bring the ottoman empire back. And I sure hope they won’t. They were a pain in the ass for both the others and their own people
Not related to Europe in any way shape or form. Ataturk also spent his life fighting Europeans and killing christians.
And the population is ok with this?
We really hate this, and I am in middle of my learning career
I’ve been talking to turks. Their optimism and expansionist vision is part of Erdogan’s strategy on power but it works. Will there be a real expansionism? Well, it’s happening: Libya, Armenia and Syria know it well. Greece also suffers that attitude.
For Europe it’s not a big problem as long as you’re not a neighbor
Nothing says “healthy society” like erasing the past.
Lol
They think we learned about Ataturk in high school
I’m Turkish and idgaf about this
From Britannica,
> Kemal Atatürk (born 1881, Salonika [now Thessaloníki], Greece—died November 10, 1938, Istanbul, Turkey) was a soldier, statesman, and reformer who was the founder and first president (1923–38) of the Republic of Turkey. He modernized the country’s legal and educational systems and encouraged the adoption of a European way of life, with Turkish written in the Latin alphabet and with citizens adopting European-style names.
> One of the great figures of the 20th century, Atatürk rescued the surviving Turkish remnant of the defeated Ottoman Empire at the end of World War I. He galvanized his people against invading Greek forces who sought to impose the Allied will upon the war-weary Turks and repulsed aggression by British, French, and Italian troops. Through these struggles, he founded the modern Republic of Turkey, for which he is still revered by the Turks. He succeeded in restoring his people’s pride in their Turkishness, coupled with a new sense of accomplishment as their nation was brought into the modern world. Over the next two decades, **Atatürk created a modern state that would grow under his successors into a viable democracy**.
Until Erdogan…
Can you provide any further sources?
Edit: even if they are in turkish
Doesn’t the first article of the Turkish constitution state that if the government tries to erase the memory of Atatürk, the military is obliged to stage a coup.
So the founding father of modern turkey is pushed to the back for the ego of Erdogan 🤢
OP doesn’t know what he is talking about, Atatürk certainly isn’t removed from the school curriculum. There is literally a course called “Republic of Turkey history of Atatürk’s revolutions and Kemalism” that is mandatory for 8th and 12th graders, and the course remains in the new curriculum as well. And on top of that, Atatürk is extensively covered in history classes in both middle school and high school. It’s even mandatory in university to take 2 consecutive “Atatürk’s revolutions” courses according to YÖK regulations.
The news is that the scope of the course was reduced a little, which was expected because Turkish ministry of education is currently modernizing the school curriculum which results in watering down the content of all courses and focusing more on improving the students’ problem solving and critical thinking skills. They are also removing calculus from the high school math curriculum and modern physics from the physics curriculum for example.
What those mfs tried to do something it hitted backwards so youth is going to be more Kemalist lol
Can we just keep our internal issues away from european subs? What do you even expect from europeans to say about this? Hell, I doubt you’re even Turkish.
