Russian forces brutally attack Ukraine’s second largest city Kharkiv

Russian forces bombarding the country’s second largest city harke now President Vladimir zalinski is making an urgent plea to the Us and other allies asking for long range air defenses to help save civilian lives International correspondent Jason balini joins us now live with more on this Jason hi there Jay well president zinski was making that appeal in person in the area of zapara now actually let me correct myself there he was in hary this is the second largest city that has been coming under Relentless assault and we see him walking through the ashes of a building that was destroyed it was a printing plant for books which he said is where some of Ukraine’s most prominent authors had their books published and again he’s making the argument to us officials that Ukraine needs to be able to use the weapons that the US has provided them in order to be able to attack the Russians and be able to get them at the source which is inside of Russia and right now the US is maintaining its position that they can’t do that that it would be too much of a risk of escalation here’s what president zalinsky said a def Sy it’s the shortage of air defense systems that are actually available in the world it’s the lack of long range capabilities for our Warriors and the complete inability to destroy the very source of Russian Terror near our borders including the missile launchers that actually hit Ukraine as a result of that Terror 123 orphans according to Ukrainian officials are going to be evacuated that’s in addition to the 11,000 civilians who’ve been evacuated from the harke region meanwhile back in keev they’ve got rolling blackouts and we haven’t seen this since the first year of the war all that is the result of the Russian Onslaught on Ukrainian critical infrastructure that just continues and continues Joe Jason you’ve been tracking this in Ukraine ever since it started so you know about how important these air defenses are for Ukraine just give us a sense of what the situation is like over there right now well it’s a situation where they just don’t have a way to prevent Russia from attacking in particular harkee but also other critical areas and vulnerable areas of the front line they have Ukrainian officials the foreign minister asking for another another six uh Patriot missile batteries from the us and president zinski has been saying the US has them send them to us we need them so desperately right now because if we have har the second largest city where we’ve got millions of people if that is so vulnerable right now then this is just not sustainable that’s the argument he’s making and he makes it very powerfully by going there himself at Great personal risk um the other thing I’ll say is that right now with these power blackouts that’s a real blow to morale of people all over the country and it’s not clear how quickly Ukraine is going to be able to restore electricity as they get into the heat of the summer Joe all right International correspondent Jason balini thank you

The US is maintaining its position that they can’t do that because it would be too much of a risk of escalation.

  10. He is not the brightest leader than us now. A dictator. He cancelled elections and if they did attack locations in a Russia they said they would consider that an attack from those countries who's missilea those are. That would be WW3. Ukraine is not worth WW3 period

  11. I would hate Russia too but come on now. This is harsh reality! It is time for Zelensky to sue for peace. This war can't go on forever!
    Surely he realizes by now he can't win and that EU and US cannot give him billions of cash forever?

    You need to compromise for the greater good of the country – lives are more important than pride or money. Ukrainians are tired of war, millions of them are dodging the draft and refuses to fight to become cannon fodder. They simply want to go back to their normal lives and raise their families.
