What did you expect them to say? “F*ck yeah”? It’s called diplomacy, my man.
I wonder what they say about Putin’s death.
I have an Iranian colleague, an Iranian hairdresser and Iranian family friend.
Their response “good.” and “about time.”
That’s diplomacy, you express yourself diplomatically.
It’s disgusting that some European leaders did that
Sometimes it costs nothing to say nothing. I don’t know what has been going on in the offices of the fossils who hold key jobs in EU institutions over the last two years, but it seems like they are trying to emulate the worst parts of US foreign policy to stay relevant.
Off the top of my head, I recall: Borrell’s conquistador rants and his begging China to take the EU seriously, the Enlargement Commissioner’s corruption allegations that mysteriously vanished along with his opposition to the Srebrenica resolution, and the relentless appeasement of SE and EE autocrats like Aliyev. There’s also Qatargate and the EU spokesperson’s condescending remarks telling Southeastern countries to behave in an ‘European manner.’
Even yellow journalism like Politico can sometimes be right in pointing out that folding to autocrats while only showing a strong face towards weaker entities or existential threats like Russia is problematic. However, people here have a hard time criticizing EU foreign representation unless it’s about immigration policies.
That’s such a stupid title I won’t even pretend to have read the article.
Breaking News: European Leaders don’t act like Neurotic Redditors.
We do a little bit of trolling
WTF was EU supposed to do, not take the opportunity to pry Iran away from ruzzia?
I’m sure that everyone knew it was a doomed effort, but they have to try.
Europe and its stupid politics is a joke for many years. So nothing surprises me anymore.
So many world leaders deserve this ending.
Redditor’s when public ambassadors are responsible and cordial instead of busting out the Champaign. These are public servants did you really think they were gonna celebrate this? They probably are privately but in public no. Critical thinking is honestly down the drain
Iranian drones bomb and kill europeans in the russian war in europe. and this is our reaction. not only are these dictators emboldened by western weak and carefull response. they get respect when they die. So don’t expect any of them to stop testing and killing us anytime soon.
You should all be ashamed of yourselves
I’m sure that our Foreign Office insulting Iran will make things cooler in the middle east these days. A lot of clever people in r/europe… sigh.
People are too occupied with words, and not sufficiently occupied with actions.
Yes, this could have been handled better, but I would rather have the European way of actions matching words, rather than the American way of using bombastic words, yet then doing even less.
they had a choice: say something or say nothing… they chose the bad one
Did they expect the EU to textually say “LMAO”, or what?
Because anyone that knows how to read between the lines knows diplomacy is just about hiding “LMAOs” and “fuck you LOLs” behind courtesy shit.
But I guess we got 6 year-olds to write “articles” nowadays.
