  1. What’s the hold up? They probably do unofficial state meetings all the time?

  2. 24 years? They’re literal neighboring countries in Europe…wild lol 😆

  3. Wow, that long, really? How come they waited that long?

  4. _”While Macron is a frequent visitor to Germany as Paris and Berlin try to coordinate their positions on EU and foreign policy, this is the first state visit with full pomp since Jacques Chirac came in 2000.”_

So I guess it’s also safe to announce that it’s the first time _ever_, Macron visits Germany on May 23 2024!

  5. > Steinmeier is holding a state banquet for Macron at his Bellevue palace in Berlin on Sunday evening before the two presidents travel on Monday to the eastern city of Dresden, where Macron will make a speech, and on Tuesday to Muenster in western Germany.

I wonder what time period this palace is decorated in.

    According to Wikipedia:

    > In 1986–87, Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker had the interior of the palace completely redesigned by the architect Otto Meitinger in order to adapt the rooms to the character of the external historical appearance, whereby the sequence of rooms was also restored according to plans from the time before the destruction. Weizsäcker had the palace furnished with part of the valuable Empire style furniture collection from Wilhelmshöhe Palace in Kassel as a permanent loan and initiated the exchange of paintings with German museums in order to present guests with classical and modern German art. However, two rooms have been preserved with their furnishings in the style of post-war modernism.

  6. France and Germany need to cooperate and take initiative in creating an overarching EU defense industry and preferably an integrated EU army as well. We need to create a sizeable army with a collective defense spending of around 60% of that of the US, including a EU wide nuclear umbrella.

  7. 24 years.. there’s many reasons behind that.

France and Germany agree on a stronger EU, a stronger Eurozone, more security but that’s where near everything stops. Macron wants to match US tarrifs on Chinese EV’s, Germany STRONGLY opposes because German parts are in those EV’s. Macron wants the US out of Europe militarily, Germany thinks it literally the worst time ever to even think about that (how tables have turned). Taiwan, France is against any intervention, Germany is thinking about helping some. Weapons that the EU may invest in, are they German or French? How to deal with Africa, a massively major issue for Europe in particular.. the colonial past is used by China/Russia to keep people hating on Europe.. France still hangs onto various colonial era perks like banks and other investments across Africa. Dealing with Russia from the start, a vast difference. Should Ukraine use European weapons to strike Russia? If so what are the conditions if any? What can they destroy, whats off limits?

Even with a European Army, Germany and France have massively different ideas on how to go about that, rather it should be tied to EU in any way, if it’s simply going to be a NATO 2.0, etc.

I feel bad for the Germans, having to deal with the French has to be a lesson in epic patience.

  8. it’s so weird how the french have never been able to psychologically recover from, because they can’t admit, their total loss in world war II. everything fell apart for them after the nazis steamrolled them and then the americans and british came in and replaced the vichy regime with de gaulle. the soul of france, (philosophers, government leaders, artists) has been in a catatonic state since 1940. now they are spreading their disease throughout europe

  9. Seriously?! I knew they didnt get allong verry well and im on the French side in this one but damn 24 yrs and no visit sounds a bit extreme to me…

  10. I hope Macron can convince Germany to stop trying to split the diff on UKR/RUS. He is VERY clear that RUS is a major threat to European peace and security. Germany needs to wake TF up.
