1. Putin likely knows that he can’t survive the summer especially if Poland and a few other nations are talking openly about troops in Ukraine and other nations are encouraging missile strikes into Russia.

   Any time Putin wants peace, Russia can withdraw completely from Ukraine and Crimea and return the thousands of children he is holding hostage.

3. Putin is a madman but not an idiot. He knows Ukraine won’t accept peace talks from him. I think this done in an effort to provide an excuse for his summer offensive or a 2nd round of mobilisation.

   He is a basically able to say “hey, this Zelensky Nazi refused our offer for peace so I guess we have no choice but to send you all in”

4. Sounds great, let’s start with an unconditional pull back to the 1991 borders, so that the peace talks can begin. Peace talks are great, let’s talk peace!

14. What the fuck is this, CNN? Putin is absolutely ready to buy some time to regroup, but until Russia has backed out of Ukraine it cannot BE peace talks – it’s just a stalling tactic and propaganda.

    It’s very simple. The war ends when Russia backs out of Ukraine. Anything less than that is just a very temporary ceasefire.

15. These are not “peace talks”, these are talks about occupation, which are far from peace; they could be called peace talks if the russian federation left the territory of Ukraine. Until then, world should stop play dumb putin’s game and call the occupation by peace

17. Every single time Ukraine negotiated peace with russia they have ended up being attacked.
    I’m sure Ukraine haven’t forgotten about the first year of the war when they negotiated so that civilians could safely evacuate from encircled cities, only for russia to fire on them anyway. This happened so many times that Ukraine had to stop negotiating with them.
    In fact, the only reason Ukraine is being invaded right now is because the negotiated peace with russia. You can’t negotiate with a country that behaves like this. Its not only dangerous to negotiate with russia but straight up reckless at this point.

    The problem with lying about everything is that nobody will believe you, even if you somehow tell the truth.
    In the real world actions have consequences.

24. If this is true, then that can only mean he is aware that he can‘t win this militarily. At least not before a long phase of regrouping and restocking. That would shed a light on the recent “offensive” into the direction of Kharkiv. Maybe they tried to break through and are not confident to achieve this. Maybe they tried to scare Ukraine and the West into caving to some of the Russian demands.

    Putin can not be trusted. I don‘t see that Ukrainians will fall for another round of “frozen conflict until the Kremlin is ready for the next phase of invasion and annexation”.

25. Because first off his “peace talks” are meet my demands for a complete surrender. Then you have to understand even if Ukraine takes the deal demilitarizes and gives up their territory, Russia won’t keep there end of the deal. The last time Ukraine made a deal in exchange for a promise to never be invaded was when they traded there Soviet nukes. And as you can see that promise wasn’t worth the paper it was on. So nothing would stop Russia from steam rolling Ukraine in a few years after they give up their military.

    Do neither and it means he is lying, as always.

    Is he using Western journalists to further his agenda? Probably.

29. I’m sure that his offer for peace would be that all of the Ukraine that he has taken over will be Russian territories. It is just a delay tactic anyway. He is waiting until Trump gets into office. (Which I pray won’t happen). At which time Trump will do away with all sanctions against Russia, stop sending munitions to Ukraine, and resign from NATO.

    Yeah. Yeah, I bet Zelensky remembers it too. No way he’d accept this “peace talk” when the last “deal” fell through the floor from Putin shat the bed with it.

    Edit: Sidenote, yes I know this is a recycled talking point, but so is Putin wanting a “peace deal”, and I absolutely refuse to let the anyone believe/be fooled for a second that this is in any way a good thing. These fucking Russians either leave Ukraine, drop their weapons and surrender, or turn their guns on their “allies”, because all Putin is just a genocidal war monger obsessed with reliving the “glory years” of Russia, and he’s just posing as this “nice guy” by asking for “Come on guys, remember the Christmas Truce of 1914 🥹 Let’s talk and be friends” as if this megalomaniac didn’t just invade Ukraine for some bullshit reason and isn’t actively oppressing his own citizens.
