>“The premise has been clear, we would bring in a National Service Act, so that would be in the same way that Labour did when educational training to 18 was brought in.
Why does it seem like everyone is just ignoring the fact that 18 year olds are legal adults? I get that many people often infantilise young adults but still..surely it’s different to school children
It makes sense that a policy as backwards as this would be ‘pay to NOT play’.
That’s a bold strategy to win the election, let’s see how it plays off for them.
But I thought a minister said there would be no punishment for those who wanted to NOT sign up to serve?
Honestly, these whole “serve your country” and “ask not what your country can do for you ask what you can do for your country” Americanisms need to die. I have no doubt the DM and others of its ilk will dox anyone who refuses to serve.
Can we please, *please* (I beg with all of my strength) get a government that can take care of the teachers, those on poverty lines, the environment, the NHS, the police, and everything else that are actual real issues. Like FFS, I would vote Count BinHead if he promised to address the above issues.
Wow! I know they don’t poll well amongst the youth, but they must have some votes amongst their parents.
The Tories don’t want to win this election, do they? They have gone full Banzai.
That fact that they call it ‘child’ and then say national fucking service tell us the type of people they really want. Child soldiers why? All infected with the woke.
This is just a way to fill up the news and stop other parties being talked about. We need to talk about the serious policies that will actually happen. The national service is a rediculous policy and will never pass.
All this tells me is that they haven’t got a clue … not one of them has any idea what coherent messaging or teamwork means. They can’t hang together so they’ll hang separately.
Can a parent be held responsible for the actions of their ADULT offspring?
I’m wondering why the person who suggested this is a Minister. Legally, at 18 in the U.K. you are considered an adult.
How exactly does the Minister propose to legally hold an adult responsible for the refusal by another adult to carry out National Service?
Unless, National Service is proposed for a younger age, which is equally ill-considered.
TLDR Minister needs to take off their clown shoes, they seem to be worn out.
LOL, OK Tories! When I’m in power, I’ll make national service a requirement for all current and ex Conservative party members. Since neither I nor the Tories will win the next general election, I don’t think we need worry.
Parents could be held responsible for the actions of their adult children?
Is she completely stupid?
I clicked the post, what actually happened was:-
>Anne-Marie Trevelyan was asked if parents could be fined in the same way they are if their children skip school.
>The Foreign Office minister did not rule it out, telling Times Radio: “I’m not going to write the detailed policy now, that’s what a royal commission programme of works will be for.
So it was never actually said, she just didn’t answer the question, which is pretty much normal for fucking politicians.
Absolutely incredible they’re rolling this out as part of a re-election campaign. Possibly one of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen from them, and that’s saying something.
Lol. It’s abundantly clear that this was just a shit idea thrown out there with zero thought. Now they’re making it up as they go.
Setting aside the merits of any of this, isn’t it a bit bizarre that we’ve gone from no-one talking about national service to people being penalised for not doing it in less than a week?
Can we then punish the government when the parents refuse to play ball?
I just assume this is one of those “dead cat” things where they announce something ridiculous to distract from something unpopular.
I will fight so that my son doesn’t have to.
-Probably everyone during the 1910s
Is it just me or is this just a policy disaster. Surely it must be annoying ten times as many people as the odd colonel blimp character.
