What working in France is like according to an American

  1. So unrealistic.
    It should be ” Go to the beach with someone else’s wife”

  2. Few years ago I was sent to Sillicon Valley for work reasons and I stayed there a couple of months. I was expecting this 14 hour crazy shifts we see in movies but they do their 8 hours sharp.

    With a virtual 0% unemployment they know if they get sacked they’ll go somewhere else so they really don’t put it an effort.

    But that was only in the company I was and in the engineering sector so who knows.

  3. Wait amercians do that too? I thought it was ours – east asian feature.

  4. Here is a small reminder of how much you can legally work in France:

    * Maximum is 10 hours a day.
    * Maximum 48 hours a week, and 44 hours meantime on 12 weeks (so if you work 48 hours during 6 weeks, you can’t work more than 40 hours the next 6 weeks)
    * At least 24 hours consecutive of rest a week
    * At least 11 hours between two work days (so if you finish your work at 10 P.M., you can’t start before 9 A.M. the next days)
    * At least 12 consecutive open days of holidays (so 2 weeks) are to be taken between May first and October 31th.

    There are exceptions (for some activities or else if the work inspector agrees it is necessary and exceptional).

    If you ever come working in France, know your rights!

  5. Imagine having workers’ union and even workers’ rights. Imagine cashiers who dare work sitting.

    Outrageous!

  6. I’ll never get over the casual flex europeans pull off in international meetings, when making yearly plans.

    “Sorry, we can’t have the important meeting on that date, half of the office will be on holiday for 3 weeks”.
