Imagine what Putin could have achived with that money if he had spent inside Russia on their infrastructure, economy and public services. Instead he built the world’s 2nd biggest army and has gone on a killing spree. It’s a tual crazy the citizen inside Russia don’t see that.
I always take such numbers with a grain of salt.
First of all, there is little or no transparency with numbers of this kind in Russia. Next, there is the issue of a currency that is not really a convertible thing. In other words the exchange rate of the Ruble against the Dollar does not say a thing.
There will be certainly long term effects of the war on the Russian society. Looking into Germany (I am German) after WW2 could give an indication, however for this Russia must loose in a way that it is also occupied by foreign players, Which will not happen, or it will be the Chinese which will be even worse.
The main point is that these numbers and effects would drive politicians and policy to improve the situation in all normal countries. Given the fact that Russian politicians do care more about the dirt between their toes as they do care of their citizens, all numbers and effects are not comparable with western societies.
China would have made a profit of many times this through cheaper fuel and other raw materials. – which always China to be more competitive and beat Western businesses. China has won this war.

I see destroyed tanks estimates ranging up to 7k, and they definitely seem to be running out of APCs as well. How much of that soviet weaoon stockpile remains?
And a generation of men, their unborn children and their widowed wives — all for the wanted glory of a political dinosaur.
