(Dumb question) May someone please explain why the answer here should be “no”?

  1. How should the police know the vehicle blocking the exit is one owned by the owner of the garage? Answer: by printing the license plate on the garage door.

So you can only block the garage door if the license plate of your current vehicle is listed on the door.

  2. Yeah.. but it’s kinda wired.. cause I don’t have it printed on my garage door and I’ve never had a problem with the police about it

  3. I think Police don´t have the time for this and there will only some kind off action iff a private company has the auhority over parking or the owner of the garage makes a call.

  4. My Dutch is far from good, but the way I understood this question was: this is your own garage, can YOU park in front of your own garage?

    Someone please educate me!

  5. It is not because you were never caught that is is allowed.

Let’s say if you have been running red lights and were never caught. When you then learn about this, will you then say it is weird that it is not allowed as you have been doing it before?

  6. You can park in front of it, when it’s clearly your own garage (the numberplate has to be on the door)
But on the picture, there is no number plate indication, so you can’t park in front of it

  7. OP, since you said your Dutch is not good, it says that your parked car’s number plate must be duplicated on the garage door. If there is no number on the garage or if the number is different, then it is illegal to park even your own car there.

Even though a few others noticed that they have not been fined for that, it just means they do not know the rules themselves and are still breaking the law. Basically, you might get away with it, but why risk it?

  8. Der staat geen nr plaat op, dus mag er niemand staan. Enkel als je eigen nr plaat er op kleeft mag dat wel.

  9. Thanks everyone! I missed the part “duplicate” the license plate on the garage door. Clearly I need to further improve my Dutch.

  10. I’d say, think of what the police would see. There’s no license plate on the garage door, so they wouldn’t know if that really is your car in front of that door.

  11. You don’t own a portion of the public place. So, it doesn’t give you the right to park in front of your garage.

You have judicial décisions where the towed guy said that it wasn’t even a garage because no one use it as well, even if it has the blue sign…

  13. Friend of mine, who lives down the street, always has people blocking his driveway/garage. Usually customers from the restaurant next door. He doesn’t bother trying to get them towed anymore. He just runs over here and borrows my car. Then he parks it right behind the other car. (Driveway can hold 3/4 cars) preventing them from leaving. He then waits until THEY have to call the police.

  14. So…. if I make a copy of my plate in a magnetic sticker i can just park in front of somebody garage and put my plate on the gate and it will be fine?????

  15. “Als hij zijn nummerplaat duidelijk zichtbaar heeft aangebracht.”

“When his number plate has been clearly applied”

The gate doesn’t have a number plate, so no you can’t park there even though you own it.

Some dickhead could call the police on you if you park there and they’d tow you even when you own it. (and yes, there are people that would do this) The police can’t know you own the gate.

  16. It is always no.
People don’t even have to put up a no parking and/or blue towing sign.
The numberplate is just a curtosy towards to police/parkingvalidators.
saying: “Hey! I’m guarding this house!” :woof:

  17. These questions are always tricky they distract you with the gate but the answer is that you cant park on the road without indication that it is a parking zone

  18. The answer is no exclusively because let’s say your car is 7-ABC-123 but how is anyone supposed to know the only car allowed to park there is 7-ABC-123?
If it was noted as that car being the exclusion it would be allowed

  19. Nummerplaat moet op de garage staan zodat ze weten dat dit idd jouw garage is. Leuk weetje druk wat stickers met jouw nummerplaat en leg die in jouw auto. Zo heb je altijd plek
